Sammy quitting his job
There are times when people have to make decisions based on the moral dilemmas they find themselves into. The decision an individual makes depends on the experience the individual may have gone through or experienced. Sometimes it is what they had always wanted to do or avoid the current position they find themselves in life that leads to making the decisions. In this context, the essay will focus on whether Sammy did the right thing by quitting his job or not.
The story shows three earlier moments that indicate that there is something out of the ordinary that is likely to happen. The first moment is when the girls enter the store, everyone gets excited and ending up upsetting the store’s atmosphere. The second moment is Sammy notices the presence of McMahon,” patting his mouth and looking after the girls sizing up their joints.” Seeing what Sammy had been doing, he says sorry to the girls. The final moment comes with a warning from Sammy that the saddest part of the story was coming. He notes the sadness of the family, even though on his side, he does not feel so. There is no possibility of Sammy quitting, but there a possibility of something sad to Sammy’s parents happening about the girls.
Lengel’s seems to be right about the girls. It is very evident in the kind of treatment he offers the girls. The fair treatment, carrying out his tasks in relation to how his employer expects him to and showing concern to clients or customers who may have been embarrassed. Additionally, they found them in an uncomfortable situation with a lack of propriety in a dress. He treats Sammy like a father or in a fatherly manner. He attempts to talk to him to consider his decision about quitting instead of directing his anger to him. He fairly handles Sammy being that he is a good-hearted patient man. His interpretation of the situation of the incident shows him that Sammy might be acting immaturely. It is evident in his attitude towards the customers, ogling of the girls’ lasciviously, and opinion that Lengel had embarrassed the three girls. Even though he might be right in his realization that he does not belong to A&P, he holds that some of the store’s foods are poorly made and majorly that the rules are significantly unfair.
The comment from him indicates that he should not be doing a service job. Due to that for him, he thinks that it is the right decision for him to quit his job. In my opinion, Sammy did not do the right thing by quitting his job. Sammy lacks a valid reason for what makes him quit his job. If it was working in a service industry that he never wanted, then he should not have waited for that incident to happen so that he can quit. He should have just resigned without having anything to hold on as the primary reason for quitting. The incident brings out the immaturity level of Sammy by being ignited by such a simple event to do one thing that would make his parents sad.
In conclusion, Sammy may have made the right decision according to him, but it was not the right time to make such a decision. After all, everyone has those moments that caught up their attention ones in a lifetime. They, at times, find themselves out of their senses.
