School Counselors
After conducting a field experience in k-8th elementary schools, it came to my realization that many students were performing poorly in both academics and co-curricular activities. Some students were suffering from depression due to being bullied by other students. Other students lacked parenting back from home while others were smuggling drugs to raise money, either to please fellow students, or to fit in a certain class that they believed could not fit without money. After reviewing the difficulties that the students underwent, as a professional counsellor, my obligation was to make a positive impact on the student’s life to restore a healthy learning environment in the school compound.
I realized that many students spent most of their time alone, apart from when they are in class. As a professional counsellor, I vowed to spend most of my time in direct contact with the students. I also planned to organize counselling activities every week in groups and individual students for a responsive talk. I suggested the school to be holding random parents students meetings to ensure good relationships between the parents and their children considering that many parents spent most of their time occupied at work, and tend to forget about their children. I planned to set a well-structured timetable for co-curricular activities to promote talent and career, since most of the students are forced by their parents to only concentrate on education, yet they can perform excellently in other fields like playing football, swimming, and music. My desire is to ensure students are well natured in a productive manner, well-adjusted grown-ups for a better tomorrow. The young children and youths need a close follow up since they are very delicate, and may end up making the wrong decisions.
