Part A
The labour party winning the election in 1945 established a new Phase for Britain. Most of the voters voted for Clement Attlee, the Labor party leader to bring back peace to the nation has suffered a dreadful depression.
The voters wanted a government that was peaceful as well as operating on a policy of shares (Miklaucic, 2010). With the labour party taking over the country, private owners were forced to sell their businesses.
As a result, the labour party created a mixed economy. The industries that were nationalized were now able to exist with the private ones (Miklaucic, 2010). The government-owned enterprises such as rails, coal, and steel were able to serve the common good for the citizens compared to benefitting others with richness.
Having a look at this, it did set the foundation that would enable globalization to thrive. It leads to the creation of hope, which led to the formation of the national health service, led to the establishment of trade union rights and lastly creation of employment opportunities.
All these factors led to the growth of cross border trading as well as the flow of individuals from one point to the other. The country’s economy was improved and this improved the U.K’ interdependence. Socialism was born which in return led to the retreat of capitalism and free markets.
Part B
The major ethnic cleavages in the U.K was born from regional conflicts such as those between England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland (“SMIC Comparative Government, “2013). Even though all these three regions were joined to gather into two, that is, Scotland and England through the Acts of Union 1706-1707, individuals from these countries still identify themselves based on their native origins such as Irish, English, Scottish, and Welsh.
In some way, this hampered the progression of globalization (“SMIC Comparative Government, “2013). In most countries as depicted with some of the European Union, member countries have been able to benefit from globalization as a result of presenting a united front. While in England normally presented itself as a unit, there are still divisions that are presented based on ethnic origins. On the other hand, individuals would want a fair share of the benefits of globalization and if some ethnic groups disadvantage, they would not support globalization. It should also be noted that the U.K has also faced various inequalities based on race but these native groups such as Irish, English, Scottish and Welsh have not faced it (Thane, 2010). However, globalization was a central factor in Brexit vote, many of the British citizens citing immigration as the issue.
Part C
In the U.K religious cleavages are not particularly present or noticeable. In some way, a majority of the population is majorly associated with Christianity or any other affiliated religion (“SMIC Comparative Government, “2013). However, there is an existence of a minority of the population that practices Islam and Hinduism. While there are differences between these religious groups, it should be noted that there are no or less dissent between these groups of religions. As a result, this proved to have facilitated globalization. With the diverse religious groups and the free interaction between these groups enabled England to conduct business from nations of all walks. England has a great relationship with countries from various regions such as the Middle East, North America, Latin America and Asia. Most of these strong relationships can be accredited to the free interaction between societies with different religious backgrounds.
