Introduction
As a proficient nurse in the healthcare field, it is easy to notice that communication is a vital aspect of providing enhanced patient care. In my nursing career I have managed to provide holistically care for self, patients, colleagues, and the society within a legal, ethical, and diverse communication approach within the framework of practical Registered Nurse. Effective communication between nurse leaders, nurses, doctors, and patients is often considered essential since it encourages individuals to be open-minded and share their ideas as well as concerns (Burgener, 2017). Being a proficient nurse I have encountered various occasions that have improved due to effective communication within a healthcare organization as well as deprived as a result of poor communication.
In my medical career, I have developed different abilities and approaches that can care and communicate with patients of different socioeconomic, religion, and cultural background. Through experienced learned from different medical circumstances and training, I can communicate with individuals in an approach that conveys respect and enhances value in the medical relationship while evaluating the patient’s level of wellness. In my nursing career, I have managed to interact with patients from various backgrounds in a caring approach as well as ensure a growing relationship in a responsible and respectful approach. Moreover, while conducting my healthcare duties, I ensure that I focus on a significant ethical perspective.
Currently, I experience no difficulties in considering human dignity as a priority in my line of care. By developing effective communication skills it is easy for me to interact and understand not only individuals in my healthcare setting but, also people from the community (Amudha, Hamidah, Annamma & Ananth, 2018). In all departments and healthcare organizations I have worked in, I have managed to receive various positive responses concerning my interaction approaches with the community. Individuals and patients under my care receive excellent consultation and education for them to comprehend the care procedures and the organization’s objective.
I am a strong and goal-driven leader that aims for the healthcare environment of effective teamwork and communication between nurses and another workforce. In my line duty, I often encourage colleagues to perform to their full potential and regularly organize team discussions. Through effective communication, my team is often free to suggest ideas as well as present their issues regarding their unit. I believe that teamwork is an essential factor in healthcare organizations. As a proficient nurse, I have developed different encouraging and motivational speeches that are essential in enhancing nurses’ morale and improve patient care.
Being proficient signifies that a healthcare provider depends more on experiences to address various concerns. In my nursing career, I use systematic skills and measures in implementing the understanding of multidisciplinary interventions and health education. I demonstrate competence in communication since I can assess and enhance pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions in a systematic approach that more organized when providing care to individuals (Foronda, MacWilliams & McArthur, 2016). Enhance communication skills have reshaped my nursing career to a more comfortable occupation since I can easily understand patients as well as their relatives. For instance, by understanding the individual, patients, or relatives often feel free to express their issues which are essential when managing pain, infection control, and different illnesses.
Strength
My major strength in healthcare is learning and understanding from my previous errors and remaining organized. Over the years, I have made different errors and this has been advantageous since I have managed to learn various aspects from the mistakes. Moreover, I am well organized with my patients and colleagues. On most occasions, I receive new information from different sources, plan for routine activities, inform the patients regarding the plan, and develop approaches that align with the organization’s objective (Hassan, 2018). I care for individuals around me mostly patients and colleagues thus, I have the aim of assisting my patients and colleagues to ensure safe care in medical procedures. I am attentive to the needs of other individuals and advocate addressing the concerns. Administering and caring for patients is a significant strength one can have since on some occasions all the patients necessitate is a person they can communicate with and listen to their concerns as they express their feelings.
Effective communication is my major strength in my nursing career. Being fluent and able to understand different circumstances, I can identify as well as implement my care plan using an evidence-based measure while formulating long and short term objectives for the patients. Moreover, with effective communication skills, I can stop bad practices by advising colleagues and patients. By having proper communication skills I can interact with nurses and other members within the organization on occasions where nurses feel used or need motivation. I am a self-motivated nurse who believes that for the organization to achieve its goals, its workforce needs to be often motivated and encouraged (Hassan, 2018). By having a successful interaction with the staff, I can understand the different issues nurses and other colleagues face in their routine activities. I am a healthcare provider who believes in teamwork and positive interactions within a healthcare organization. For this reason, I have worked to develop different strategies that are essential in encouraging other employees to consider teamwork as a priority. Moreover, I am a proficient nurse leader who encourages colleagues to share their thoughts in an open dialogue. In my career, I have developed successful relationships since I can work with other members and understand them without difficulties regardless of their diverse culture, socioeconomic and religious background.
Weakness
The most significant challenge that I portray as weakness is failing to remain confident while conducting some activities and thoroughly communicate with patients who find a hard time understanding medical procedures such as the elderly and children. I still feel nervous when am tasked to advise these patients since I feel I might use the wrong language or complex terms. I am not good at advising minors since it’s a department that necessitates extra care and proper selection language (Hassan, 2018). I have majorly focused on motivating and encouraging adults through my communication abilities. This acts as a weakness since I find a difficult to develop measures that essential to enhancing interaction with not only the literate patients and colleagues but also children and the elderly.
Progress and career goals
By developing effective communication skills, I have become a team player, volunteering for extended shifts when our organization is a shortage of staffing. Moreover, I have managed to assist colleagues by providing mentorship programs that are centered on enhancing nurse’s morale in providing improved and safe care. My career objective is becoming a certified expert in healthcare by ensuring there are proper interaction and communication between nurse leaders, doctors, nurses, and patients within a healthcare organization. Moreover, aim at spending more time mentoring new medical practitioners while encouraging effective leadership in all medical units. In my career as a proficient healthcare provider, I have enjoyed motivating and mentoring colleagues, patients as well as the community.
