SELF-CARE IN THE NURSING CAREER

In our day to day activity, it is vital to create a caring space to avoid overworking and burdening of issues in the place of work or career. Good rest, eating healthy foods, relaxing, and taking time off to recover, regain lost energy is healthy for an individual. As such, engaging in stress reduction strategies is highly recommended in creating a care space. Thus, as a nurse, it is essential to create a balance between works, family, and time to relax and prepare yourself for the next job.

First, in my list of things I do to enjoy and pass time. I read a lot. Books are a source of knowledge and power. I read and review books to learn and enrich myself with knowledge and skills. Also, as an avid reader, I’d spent some time writing poetry. According to research, writing has always been therapeutic. As such, even in my line of work, I always urge my patients to try to write down, what bothers them, their dreams, ideas, and so forth. Poetry helps me enjoy the other side of life. Furthermore, listening to music helps relieve my brain after a long day at work. Music is life, and anytime I feel low or want to relax, some music does it well to help my body relax and refresh. Music while working out is the best. As much as I do enjoy the music, the dance is the exercise which helps me to work out and achieve some health fitness.

To do create my care space, I decided to listen to music and write a poem. The two are part and parcel of my day to day life. Where words fail to speak, music does the talking. And after having gone through a hard schedule at work, the two help me a lot in terms of relaxing, relieving stress. They also assist me to think big, visualize, and plan for my next job. Individually, listening to music when free, has helped me to learn how to think innovatively. Coming up with solutions at work and outside my career. It has enabled me to develop in terms of character and learn some virtues which have been crucial to the growth of my career (Trettene et al. 2016). Also, in the family, it has increased a good relationship with my family. We listen to music together, dance and it has enabled increase and strengthen the bond within my family. It is a tool of hope, inspires good vibes, and empowers an individual to always keep soaring high. At work, as a nurse, nothing moves you when you have a connection with your patients. The ability to listen, respond appropriately, and inspire lives. Listening to music has developed my career to another level. Even at my worst, some lyrics linger at the back of my mind, and I get up ready to serve and attend to my patients. Without music, life would never have been the same. Some patients, we listen to music, when in therapy, and seeing a smile on their faces, gives them hope that not all is lost.

Also, working on my project has developed me in terms of character. I have learned how to handle stress, patients, family, and gained a lot of confidence in relating to people from all works of life. As a nurse, I meet people from different backgrounds, and being socially aware of how to communicate, say, and act has improved me as an individual (Trettene et al. 2016). To incorporate my self-care schedule in my week. I always listen to music, early in the morning as I prepare to go to work. On the way to work, I still listen to music. It inspires and gives me morale and a reason to go out and work on my dreams and career. In the evening, I write poetry, how my day has, it has helped me channel and balance my emotions at work and home. Without music and writing poetry, my self-care wouldn’t be in better shape if it were not for the two. I have loved my career, inspired people, and transformed lives. The little things to put a smile on peoples’ faces and create those unforgettable moments are part of my self-care at work, home, and with my family.
