SELF PORTFOLIO

STEP 1

My professional goal is to achieve excellent marks in all of my upcoming semesters so that I can pass with flying colors and after I finish my studies I can make it in a good job in my field

STEP 2

STEP 3

The metaphor that I made in the above step depicts that I am ready to work hard and when I see myself in the mirror I always see myself as an upcoming software developer who is working for a very big company and is ready to face challenges for the day. As I said in the first step that My  professional goal is to achieve great marks in all of my upcoming semesters so that I can pass with flying colors and after I finish my studies I am able to make it in a good job in my field. This is what I think every day makes me more motivated to my goal and every day I said it to myself that yes I can do it. I am working more and more on my goal everyday by studying more. In this metaphor it depicts that I am an extrovert type of person who is ready to do whatever I need to do to accomplish my goal. I choose this particular metaphor as it fully depicts my situation and what I do as of now. MY PERSONALITY TYPE IS: ESFJ•EXTRAVERTED = 67%•OBSERVANT = 63%•FEELING = 58%•JUDGING = 58%

My personality has been described as extrovert. As an extrovert, I am bold, outgoing person whose attention are often directed towards outward. I do not have cultural boundary and ready to socialize with any person irrespective of an individual’s cultural background. This metaphor tells more about me as an individual. At 67% as an extraverted person, means that I can fit within any culture. Since the world has been revolutionized into a global village with internet, it means that I am free to work in any part of the world. Again, as an extrovert as indicated above, I can interact well with others, enjoy being around people and ready to learn from others.

I have a greater feeling that I can fit in any environment provided the organization or the business match my expectations. In my interaction with people, I always look at individuals with align vision and goals to achieve in life. Therefore, when I am around the right people, I always have a greater feeling of succeeding in school and pursue my career as an individual of becoming a Software developer and consultant for upcoming companies. I am an observant and this trait has successfully help me identify the right people to keep around and the people to surround myself with. Many friends have accused me of being judgmental but what they failed to understand is that, being judgmental assisted me to pick the right friends to keep around me in school because, once I keep the wrong friends, achieving my career goal of becoming of one the best software developer may be not possible. Therefore, these personality traits not only help me understand my friends but also know my strengths and weaknesses. This is necessary because it allows me to focus on my weaknesses and try improve them.

STEP 5

MY 5 strategies are as follows

Write It Down

Seeing your goals written on paper begins the process of making them concrete objectives. When you write down your professional goals, you should also write down why you want to achieve each goal, what you hope to gain, what you could lose if it fails and a quick outline for achieving each goal. You can then take your general outline and start developing comprehensive plans for each objective.

Find a Mentor

A mentor is someone who has accomplished tasks that are similar to, or exactly like, the ones you are trying to accomplish. For example, an older actor may agree to take on a younger actor in a mentoring relationship to help the younger actor further his career. Another example is a former marketing executive mentoring a young sales executive on the responsibilities of management. They are from two different professions, but the mentor knows what is expected of an executive and can help the student to develop his managerial skills.

Develop Milestones

The journey to reaching an objective has a beginning and an end. But you can learn more from the experience if you break down your goals into a series of smaller milestones. For example, if your goal is to increase your sales revenue by 20 percent, then you can break it down into increments of 5 percent and monitor your progress. Using milestones gives you smaller goals to achieve that will maintain your motivation, and it also allows you to stop and examine your process to see if it needs refining.

Create a Deadline

Your goals should have concrete deadlines that you use to develop your entire approach. For example, if your goal is to open a second location of your retail business, then set the deadline for that goal at one year and develop the plan to meet that time line. Deadlines force you to find innovative ways to reach your goals and add to your sense of accomplishment when you achieve a goal within your predetermined timetable.

Learn from Experience

Any future goals you set will benefit from what you learn when achieving past and current goals. When you set out to achieve a goal, take notes on the processes that work and the ones that do not. As you set new goals for yourself, use what you have learned in the past to create more effective strategies.

STEP 4

The 2 topics that I  have learned throughout this course and which I can relate them back to my goal are;-

1st WEEK 4 Understanding motivation

  • I learned that motivation is Motivationis the word derived from the word ‘motive’ which means needs, desires, wants or drives within the individuals. It is the process of stimulating people to actions to accomplish the goals. The reason it relates back to my goal is that College and specially my professors keep me motivated to achieve what I want by making me study more harder and putting me on right track as college helps me to help me find a career
  • allow me to develop my potential
  • allow me to participate in conversation with great minds
  • help me increase my confidence, self-esteem, and self-respect

Another thing of motivating which I learned is that Environment has a powerful influence on our behavior!. If I have good environment where everybody is motivated towards that goal and then seeing everyone makes me motivated towards my goal .If no know one is ready to study around me then it makes it difficult for me to be motivated towards to my goal.

Motivation comes from different ways

  • Intrinsic
  • Extrinsic

Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation

Since I am on my final year in Campus, I have greater aspirations and hopes to one day achieve my longtime goals of being a software Consultant job at Google. It is evident that being an extrovert, I am naturally social and talkative. However, for me to achieve my goal, I need to associate myself with group discussions affiliated with the Course work. Therefore, by appealing to my intrinsic motivations to align with my goal of getting better grades at the end of the semester.

Equally, I need to change my environment to be in union with ensuring that I attain my goal by continually providing that I attend several lectures, do assignments, and participate in group discussions. Being an extrovert, I certainly will do much better in a social environment. Additionally, I need to promote positive behaviors while I am around other students because not all our personalities are the same.

Equally, advocacy for appropriate behavior will help me get a rich connection of genuine friends who will help me understand some of my lecture notes. Therefore, in the process, relying on my intrinsic motivations to drive me towards achieving my goal.

My grades are my greatest motivation in this case. Additionally, for me to become a Software Consultant at Google, I need to ensure I find ways to make my grades better. Thus, the use of extrinsic motivation is evident when the Student is motivated to learn because he/she wants a good class. My desire is to work for the best Software Company, Google. Additionally, the thought of getting paid hefty empowers me towards achieving my goals is equally of external motivation, which is from achieving reward or fame.

Therefore, for me to realize my dreams. I need to ensure that I get the excellent grades that will allow me to get paid well as a Software Consultant at Google. Nevertheless, being aware of my reasoning capability, I need to ensure that I am assertive by providing I put up measures in place that will ensure I meet my objective of good grades. Equally, being an Extrovert, I will be concerned about how people will treat me because of my social and talkative nature. Therefore, I will be forced by my external factors to work extra harder so that I may be praised by the social people I know. Extrinsic motivation entails motivation propelled by external rewards. I will not only be inspired to work harder, but I will be encouraged to work harder to be able to showcase my talent to the world.

In Today’s world, we are each gifted with different talents, which define who we are. However, motivation is the key essential behind the achievement of your ambitions. Motivation is the step by step discipline on one’s desires. Additionally, there are two branches of motivation: intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation. In conclusion, both external and inherent motivation influence how different people make decisions toward achieving their goals. Intrinsic motivation requires one to be very disciplined in attaining personal purpose. In contrast, in the extrinsic motivation, it entails either constant progress to achieve a reward or avoid being punished.

Therefore, by aligning myself towards identifying a purpose, I end up using both of the motivations. In this case, about my intrinsic motivation, I will personally be pleased with myself. I achieved my target marks, and on the other hand, if I fail to meet my objective, then I will not get the Software Consultancy job. The Choice of motivation varies from each individual and for an extrovert. Extrinsic motivation compliments his/her social character. Their interpersonal ability propagates them towards pleasing crowds and loving to receive praise. Therefore, with the desire to get more recognition from my peers, I tend to work towards my goal to be cheered and afraid to be jeered.

Equally, it can be interpreted as an intrinsic motivation as well because it entails coming up with a suitable environment that will be productive for you to achieve victory, which is a personal reward. I genuinely want to change the world with my skills, which implies I want to be a Software Consultant and a Philanthropist like Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Facebook. Nevertheless, my desire to be a Software Consultant at Google is because I am passionate about it. It is evident that in this case, I invoke my intrinsic motivation, which clearly shows my passion for making the world a better place as a Software Consultant.

Finally, for intrinsic motivation, the key areas of concern revolve around creating a purpose and target objective. Additionally, personal rewards in intrinsic motivation entail having a suitable working environment, efficient response system, and promotion of ethics. However, these factors of inherent motivation solely rely on the individual’s personality. That is whether it is an introvert or an extrovert. Equally, the extrinsic motivation factors I intend to use will motivate me to achieve my target goals in conjunction with the intrinsic factors. In extrinsic motivation, I opted to set myself external rewards for each level of the checkpoint before I make it to my dream Job and Company.
