Self-Reflection on the Habits of Successful People
Habit #1
I am always proactive by reading ahead of the professors to note what will come next in the course and class (Covey, 2003). This habit has enabled me to find it easy when the instructor educates on the same concepts read before the class. As a result, I can make prompt follow-ups with the instructor to clarify the areas that prove difficult to master. In other words, I also practice this first habit considerably by taking the initiative to learn ahead of the rest of the class and seek clarifications that improve my understanding of the topics and concepts taught. I have become a highly effective learner as a result of practicing this habit.
Habit #2
I have learned that commitment is necessary to succeed. However, committing to the activities and habits that lead to achieving the set goals is the only means of meeting these targets. Thus, I always formulate my plans for given tasks beforehand to pursue the entire period that I remain committed to attaining them (Covey, 2003). For instance, I have always set grade goals at the beginning of a class; then, I usually strive to attain them throughout the class’s administration. The goals keep me focused as I work with the end in mind from the beginning of a pursuit.
Habit #3
I have learned to organize my activities and tasks by their schedule and complete the first things first. I have also kept ensuring that the most critical activities get completed ahead of the less essential ones (Covey, 2003). This kind of priority has enabled me to become highly productive in class as I prioritize the most vital academic work ahead of the rest. As a result, I have always gained higher grades when I follow this habit completed to finish a task without any ode of prioritization.
Habit #4
I have always practiced the habit of winning together with others. I still work in groups or teams to complete tasks that would be highly difficult for an individual to succeed in alone. For example, my class teams have been ways to complete projects that would prove to the task to accomplish alone. Thus, I find the win/win situation that group classwork offers and strive to do so in the other spheres of life (Covey, 2003). The use of a win/win situation is a powerful habit that I will continue to employ in every aspect of my life.
Habit #5
Communicating effectively has always been part of my academic habit. I have learned to embrace active listening as the beginning of proper understanding before making the step to reply to messages (Covey, 2003). For instance, my communication with educators and classmates involves listening actively to comprehend the issues at hand before giving suggestions. As a result, the level of effectiveness of my messages has improved over time.
Habit #6
As in the win/win actions, I am working with others in close collaboration brings critical synergistic effect to my classwork. I have learned to cooperate with the rest of my peers in completing group projects, thereby achieving more than I would when working alone on the same tasks. The synergy of liaisons enables me to attain grades in courses more than I would without such collaboration (Covey, 2003). Thus, I would continue cooperating with the right people who complement my skills and abilities in every sphere of my life.
Habit #7
I always dedicate time to revise my classwork areas that I seemed to miss before facing an exam. This habit aligns with that of sharpening the saw (Covey, 2003). It helps me improve on the places of weakness and enhance those of strength. As a result, my academic outcomes are above when they would become without the revision to achieve higher productivity and products in my academic work.
