Religious communities involve groups of people practicing the same religion examples can be Christian communities and Muslim communities. Political driven groups encompass people who have similar political ideologies .While the groups have some commonality in how they operate, they are often some differences; hence, there are groups such as the Change Congress and the Liberty Coalition. Neighborhoods are geographically localized communities with considerable social interactions among members.

There is a difference between how social workers engage in larger systems and in smaller systems. In the larger systems, a social worker involves advocacy and intervention on a large scale, affecting the entire country, state or community. In contrast, social worker has direct interaction with clients and addresses individual problems in the smaller systems. Examples of activities in the larger systems include crafting laws while in the smaller system they include offering clients with housing and individual counselling.

Autocratic leadership can be very functional in social work during situations where leadership is lacking. In such situations, strong individuals can utilize the autocratic style and take charge of the group, assigning tasks to members and establishing deadlines for the projects. However, autocratic leadership can lead to devastating consequences if used during emergencies because it discourages group input. The reason is that, leaders would have to make decisions without consulting the group, hurting the overall process.

Bureaucracy refers to a form of leadership characterized by hierarchical control and coordination of authority and it functions through a line of commands. Leaders in a bureaucracy setting develop a form of separation for the work requirements that the social workers have to complete with each leader having different powers in their jurisdiction.
