SHORT STORY
Samuel was a quiet tall man. He grew up in a calm environment. Samuel had childhood friends known as Peter and Johnson. The three went to school together, and luckily after completing school, they got jobs in the same town. Samuel and his friends would spend most of their free time together. Peter was an outgoing person, while Johnson was reserved. The three of them were very close and looked after each other
It was winter season; Sam had gone out with his friend Johnson and Peter. But before he left the house, he lit the fire at the fireplace in his poorly ventilated apartment. He left the fire on so that the house could warm up. After a few drinks and dinner, Samuel bid his friends goodbye and headed home. He arrived at his house, switched on the light, and sat on the couch. Peter decided to add a few drinks before retiring to bed. In the middle of the night, he decided to lie on the couch because he drank too much liquor. The following day Peter called Sam because they had planned to play tennis later that day. Sam did not answer Peter’s call. Peter decided to check on Sam at his house.
When he reached Samuel, he knocked, but no one could answer the door. Peter tried to peep through the small window with a black curtain, but could not see the inside of the house properly. He decided to take a stone and break the window. He broke the window, pushed the curtain to the side and saw Samuel sleeping on the couch and calling out his name. But he noticed Samuel lay on the couch motionless. Peter decided to enter the house through the window. He went and started waking up Samuel, but there was no response. He touched his hand, and it felt cold and noticed that Samuel was not breathing. Peter was shocked and scared and wondered what would have killed Samuel. After a few minutes of shock, he returned to his senses, and quickly went out of the house through the window. Peter drove furiously to his house with many questions running through his mind. He wondered what could have killed Samuel. He kept looking at his phone waiting, eagerly for Johnson to call him, but it felt like hours.
After some hours, Johnson called Peter asking whether he had tried reaching Samuel on the phone. Peter said that he had not heard from Samuel. Johnson opted they both go and check on Samuel at his place. Johnson went to pick Peters, and off they went to Samuels’s house. They knocked on the door, and Samuel was not answering. Peter knew everything, but Johnson had no clue what was happening. They went to the window, and Johnson noticed it had been broken. Johnson decided to enter the house through it. He found lying on the couch motionless. He wondered what would have transpired. He tried to call him, but Samuel did not respond. He told Peter to call the emergency team. Peter called the emergency team, who arrived immediately. The emergency team broke Samuel’s door and examined whether he was breathing, and unfortunately, he was not. They informed Peter and Johnson that Samuel was dead. Peter and Johnson went with the emergency to the hospital. The pathologists took an autopsy on Samuel and ruled out that he had died of carbon monoxide poisoning. The invisible killer had taken away Peter and Johnson’s long time friend. It was so devastating for them that they were still in disbelief.
