Should Canada increase its immigration numbers?
An increased number of immigrants help improve a country’s economy. Resent research shows, immigrants are likely to be more educated than the Canadians are (the way Canadians are) they possess marketable skills that put them on edge in the Canadian employment market. According to Ramsey, there is a deficiency of skilled workers in Canada because the population is shrinking (of the shrinking population) and the working population is depleting. Immigrants are an added advantage to the country’s economy since they help fill the gap in the workforce by driving innovation and talents in their workplaces. Immigrants help Canada to ensure constant economic growth.
Declining birth rate and an ageing population affecting economic growth in the country. Currently, there is an economic imbalance in Canada because the ageing population is increasing (of the increasing ageing population) while the working population is increasing. An increased ageing population (increasing) puts pressure on the government because (they have large numbers relying on them with the health care and pension costs.) workers contribute to the economy by paying taxes and pension. With the declining birth rates, Canada needs the immigrants to fill in the gap in the working population, in turn, help the government to afford retirement costs.
A country requires adequate housing to cater for both the locals and the immigrants. Wright states that there is a shortage of housing and infrastructure to accommodate the immigrants in the country. Low household income in the country makes housing costs for the locals and immigrants challenging to maintain. The government should invest in housing infrastructures in Canada so that everyone can benefit from the investments and services so as to integrate the immigrants which in return will aid the country’s economy with a powerful workforce.
Immigrants are necessary for the economic growth of a country. Canada struggles with the increased ageing population and low birth rate that in turn leads to a reduced workforce. Thus, immigrants contribute with a workforce that pays taxes that helps pay the healthcare costs for the aged. Immigrants need housing infrastructure to be able to provide better services in the country.
