Significance of Masada to historical Judaism and modern Israeli understanding
Masada is essential to historic Judaism because it marks the last point where Jewish patriots faced the Roman army. Masada is a mountain fortress that overlooks the Dead Sea and is known as the place where Jews faced violence and destruction from the Romans. The modern day Israeli value Masada as a heritage site which reminds them of the heroism they possess, such as that which was displayed by the Jews who faced the Romans in battle. Therefore, Masada is considered a symbol of Jewish heroism. Aside from the fact that Masada is a breathtaking scenery visited by a majority of people, it is also considered as a symbol of determination that can help in overcoming challenges. As opposed to allowing themselves to get captured by the Romans, the Jews in historical Judaism opted to offer their lives to show just how much they valued their religion.
