SOCIAL INTERACTION
Introduction
Social interaction refers to an exchange between two or more people and is identified as a building block of the community. The interaction is derived from the personal agency which in turn creates a basis for social structure. It is essential to understand that we are different and therefore have to accept people the way they are and value their opinion. Disagreements can occur but understanding that not everything is accepted or supported (Argyle, 2017). Social interaction is also critical for the development and wellbeing of individuals. It has a positive impact on the physical and mental health of human beings. The anxiety levels are reduced since we get to learn new concepts every day as the world continues to progress.
I observed and heard two people in the park who were arguing that recess is essential in education. One person was supporting the idea while the other was disputing it. It was a quiet environment but people are allowed to speak so long as they do not interrupt other people with noise. I directly headed to where they were standing as I spotted pink flowers and a family that was hosting a birthday party with a pumpkin-themed cake. I smiled as I moved to the direction of two people that were talking about recess. As I approached them, they seemed to be the shocked reason being why I have decided to join their conversation. I looked at their faces and they were wondering who am I to join the conversation and I was not involved in the first place. The park was embedded in green pastures and a playing ground for children where they can play as adults jog or walk in the park. I joined the conversation and informed them that both of them are correct but they need to consider the behavior of learners before they make judgments. Some are fast learners while others are slow learners. For instance, the slow learners may not grasp in between the breaks but they need consistency and commitment so that they are able to acquire knowledge like the rest of the learners. However, it is important to note that every learner has the ability to learn and excel in education.
I understood and respected their opinion. I came to understand that their opinion is also important in today’s world. The world is growing and advancing in technology, innovations, and debates, therefore it needs aggressive people who will be able to provide solutions to the existing challenges. Also, I noted that they were a bit uncomfortable when I joined their conversation because I was a stranger to them. I was able to note their fear through facial expressions and struggling to talk for a minute. The behavior was not new to me but I was able to know why the behaved in that manner. All in all, we learned that interacting with each other helps us in defining life, setting rules, institutions, and systems within which we seek to live.
