Many people believe that social media is a waste of time. This belief lacks strength because conducted research opposes this idea and shows that social media can be time efficient if used correctly. Social media platforms are compelling as they link different nationals all over the world. Thus, social media has turned the world into a global village where geographical gaps have been bridged. Some decades ago, people on various sides of the world could not get information easily and could wait for days to aces it. Now with the help of social media, we can constantly stay updated on the latest news happening all over the world (KU Libraries Search). Modern social platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram among others are commonly used to pass information to an enormous number of followers. Journalists can easily get stories at a faster rate to pass to millions of people within a few minutes.

Social media has enabled the education of young people on social and political matters. Teens and adults can easily get information about sexuality, race, and politics. They can conveniently discuss opinions with their peers which builds their growth and development (“How English is social media?” 3). Through these platforms, youths can learn political ideologies and form their views and opinions without adopting directly from their parents.

Social media has saved people from the jaws of death in several situations. When huge stories arise, eg, terrorist attacks, landslides, and bombings, people use these platforms to inform the public about the incoming dangers. Within a short while, the matter gets into the television and other media outlets informing more people and more suitably spearheading a radical solution to the problem.

Social media is used to cause movements and bring attention to sensitive matters to be dealt with. The wave of women empowerment has been made a success due to the campaigns raised in social media. Cases such as rape or child molestation once reported through the platform draw attention to the whole world until the culprits are retrieved.

I, therefore, agree that the use of social media is not a waste of time when managed and used for the right purpose.
