Social Networks
I belong to three major social networks. These are Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
For Facebook social network, my type of commitment is affective. This is an emotional attachment to the network because it is one of the earliest forms of social networking. Most of the people that I interact with daily are subscribed members of this network. I have found it emotionally appealing, and the network always provides me updated social information about my friends. In my social circles, we form Facebook groups where we can have private discussions, and more personalized content is posted there.
The second network that I belong to is Twitter. My attachment to this network is normative. I feel obliged to be in it due to its perceived advantages. Twitter has a limit on the number of characters and, therefore, brief and to the point. It has also carved a niche as reliable and authentic. Many news agencies and corporates use Twitter to send out updated information and thus very effective.
I am also in the YouTube network. I have subscribed to many pages, and my attachment level to this network is continuance. This is because of the cost of changing networks to access the same information. For instance, many YouTube documentaries can be accessed for free. However, if I am to access them from other sources, I would have to pay an access or subscription fee to enjoy the same content that I get on YouTube for free.
The owners of the Facebook social network should note that the members of the community are bound by common social-emotional bonds. The owner should ensure that there is privacy since most of the users use it for personal connections. The fact that people can form groups also means that more privacy should be enhanced for people to gain confidence.
The owners of Twitter should be aware that it is considered a reliable source of information, and it brings out authenticity. It means that the owners should ensure that it is not used to spread fake news and other negative information that may jeopardize the trust that the members have in it.
For Youtube, this is for access to videos at minimal costs. The owners should, therefore, seek other ways of generating income, such as paid adverts, as people are not willing to pay the videos. The owner should also post interesting and catchy videos so that they can attract a high number of views. The content creators should also make them short and direct to retain the already subscribed viewership.
