From birth to an individual’s ultimate demise, vital organs such as the skin are at risk of intrusion. The skin is likely to contact the residues of the detergents used in washing clothes, resulting in the heightening of the immune system. The skin works to fight off the chemicals that may be harmful to the body. These chemicals get into the body through perspiration and then into the endocrine disruptor, which may cause numerous adverse health conditions. The endocrine disruptors enter the bloodstream and affect the hormone system, which invades the glands, the primary organs on the endocrine system.
Solvit is a detergent company in the US suspected of producing depressive disorder. The solvent present in their products is responsible for making the compound that causes the depressive disorder. In my research, I will consider two epidemiologic studies to help decide on the best one to analyze the dangers and collect figures on the effects of the depressive disorder by Solvit. In case-control studies, the degrees of association between the various risk factors will be analyzed, which is meant to reduce the bias that may exist in the research (Dana, 2015). The risks are known as the exposures to depression, and case-control would help determine the harmful and harmless exposures. There are also two categories of people to be studied: case one, patients who have a depressive disorder, and the control, which is the people without the condition. In this research, appropriate representative controls are selected, and assessment is done to determine possible exposure to the risk factors. Cohort studies involve classifying patients into two subsections based on their exposure status. The cohorts are then followed over time to determine who is infected and the group that is not infected. From a cohort study, incidences can easily be noticed and calculated since the relation deals with exposed and unexposed patients. Using cohort studies is expensive and time-consuming, where it covers a region based on the sample size selected. Case studies are relatively cheap and cover a larger population to study. Cohort studies are also prone to selection bias where the chosen people are based in a specific locality. Therefore, it does not analyze accurately to get varied results of outcomes. Case studies save on time and resources. Case-control studies are a suitable method to assess the effect Solvit has on the people causing depression.

Based on the results provided by the patients under study, 20% claimed to have underlying medical conditions that have been heightened by using the Solvit detergents (Matthew et al., 2016). Some have discussed their feeling after taking cold showers as they feel their moods have been elevated more than usual. It is the added solvents in the soap that cause this. Some patients claimed to be having itchy skin after using these detergents, which shows how sensitive their skin is to the compounds present in the detergents. Various patients have been evaluated through brain scans to notice the difference before and after exposure. The scans showed how chemicals have been contributory in increasing the psychiatric symptoms.
The brain is the most delicate organ in the body, which may cause psychiatric concerns such as depression. From a psychiatric standpoint, exposure to toxins in the detergents can increase the risk of depression. In the production of Solvit, the solvents responsible for causing depression should be removed from the soap, where research will also be conducted to monitor its activities. Depression has been associated with the use of detergents based on scientific evidence that has given us a clear picture of how the toxins contribute to the health problems of the people (Rigaux-Barry et al., 2017).
The detergent can be the causative agent of depression, but what if that was not the case? People suffering from allergies have always blamed the products they use for their health conditions. These detergents may cause harm, but they are gradual with time, and it is a minor case that would not affect the patient in his lifetime. The companies are taking advantage of nobody’s capacity to assess the situation on their own to come up with harmful chemicals. Various patients were interviewed through questionnaires and direct questions, and they all agreed that the soaps and detergents are the best. The patients claimed that they were unaware of the risks involved with using detergents and mostly when the residues will be stuck on the skin.
Conclusion
Conclusively, the case-control study has been instrumental in studying the population to realize the effects Solvit has on people’s health. The company, therefore, needs to ban some products or shut them down since they do not aim to safeguard the health of the rest of the population. Solvit should, on the other end, regulate harmful detergents by reducing their use in the processing unit. The IMO department should lock the company down or hand them a warning letter of compliance that they will be shut down if they do not comply.
