Sports Events and Mega Events Paper.
Sports and mega-events attract a large population of people, whether internationally or locally. Therefore this calls for proper events planning to achieve the event’s goal and even offer a quality experience. This involves setting out a strategic plan to ensure that nothing is left behind in the preparation process. With the steps outlined, they guide that aids to work within the budget and even for consultation that expands one’s knowledge of offering quality experience (Horne, 2016). For successful mega or sports events, the coordinator also requires research on other issues to achieve the goal of the event. Some of the factors to take into consideration are as discussed in the paper.
Events are made successful and practical with a clearly set out goal and theme. This is because the goals and themes guide the required resources needed to attain the goal. If the goal is not well defined, the likelihood of losing track of it is higher. An event’s goal is to guide light of all the other plans, such as location and culture.
While planning for any event location is always critical. Any event planner looks forward to accommodating many people who will be effective to manage, which will get an impactful experience (Müller, 2015). For any event planner, they all look for a safe and secure environment that will be pleasing and fit the theme of the event. Identifying the location also helps plan for security and determine the number of staff needed to make the event successful.
With the identification of a location, there is also the need to research the customs of the location, especially if it is international. This is because nations have different business customs and traditions. While the event might attract people from different customs and cultures, the event planners must acknowledge the nation’s proper etiquette and prioritize it. For instance, in Singapore, when a giving and receiving business cards, the person giving the business card must hold the card with both hands, with the names on the card facing the receiver of the card (Müller, 2015). The receiver should then receive the card with both hands and study the card to acknowledge the person’s name before putting the card in the pocket. Acknowledgment of such and more cultures in the nation live no room for hurting the hosts.
Nonetheless, even though understanding the hosting nation’s culture can be exciting and an added advantage, it is also wise to collect and contact references to understand the technicality aspect. Through various references, one can know various possibilities and how to manage them (Horne, 2016). This means having an effective second plan if the first one fails. This calls for flexibility because also during the last minutes, several additions may be needed, or several challenges may show up and this should not affect the goal of the event. Instead, the planner should have an effective backup plan that will not deviate the goal of the event.
Additionally, it is important to find an effective local partner for event planning. Whether local or international event planning, it is important to have an effective local who has extensive knowledge of the location. This is because they bridge the gap between cultures and connect the event planner with inside information that may not be easy to find online. Event planning can be challenging but can also be effective and successful if the above-stated factors are considered.
