Star Wars film
The very moment I read this question, I already knew the answer by heart. Star Wars is certainly a film that can be turned into a concept musical. When I first watched Star Wars, in the back of my mind I kept wishing that it was a musical. The themes from Star Wars form excellent themes for a musical. The drama that the family of Luke and Leia present is a typical musical concept. Musicals are associated with the theme of unknown and complicated family relations. I believe that the scene in which Obi-Wan is grieved for by Luke but bolsters Luke to run can be transformed in one song. I can technically link this to when, in the musical Into the Woods, the song “No More” is used to transform the moment when Baker’s surrender provides the opportunity for resolution. Star wars presents viewers with another musical concept in the friendship between Chewy and Han. I have watched so many musicals, and somehow most of them present viewers with friendships involving people who are wildly different. There are numerous musical songs based on such friendships and at some point, I could even link Chewy and Han back to the song “If I didn’t have you” from the musical Quest for Camelo. Where the rebels in Star Wars discover the weakness of Death Star, I easily think of the musical Hamilton where Jefferson re-emerges and using a song asks “Can we get back to politics, please?” I often imagine songs added to various scenes in the film. An example is when Luke is being told by Darth Vader that he’s his father. When I watched the film, I thought of how beautiful it would have been if this revelation was made through a song. Better still, it would have been great if Yoda rather than speaking in riddles, were to speak in tunes. A little bit showbiz would have made this film more phenomenal. This film would make a phenomenal space opera.
