State your Research Topic, Objective/Purpose and Research Question(s).
- Research Topic: Embry Riddle Versus ATP
- Objective/Purpose: To find out Is a bachelor’s degree necessary to be a pilot?
- Research Question:“What” of the research the research seeks to understand what advantage, if any, having bachelor’s degree does to your role as a pilot and why major airlines won’t hire pilots without one.
- What would be the population for your study? The population being studied would be graduate pilots from both institutions.
- What would constitute an appropriate sample? Sample size is determined by identifying the minimum number of people or units needed to represent that population well and to produce useful results (Patten & Newhart, 2018, pg.110. This research will constitute random samples of graduate pilots from both institutions.
- What methods would be appropriate for collecting data to answer this question/these questions?
I would utilize internet surveys, questionnaires and personal testimonies.
- Why are these methods appropriate/effective?
They provide firsthand data from subject matter experts living the pilot lifestyle after training through either institution.
- What is an alternative method of data collection for this question/these questions?
Review of previous research and studies conducted by credible sources.
- Why is this also appropriate?
It will give a in depth understanding of the topic at hand from different eyes and points of view.
- Which method do you think is better for your research? Why?
Internet surveys offer firsthand information compared to reading published research on the topic, which leads me to believe internet surveys are better.
