study of Swanville, MN response paper
This is a response to the post by Tashia on her study of Swanville, MN, where she resides. The town is relatively small and only has a limited number of services. The majority of the people are adults below the age of 61. The majority of the people in this town are white. Males outnumber females. The city has all amenities required in daily life. Swanville has the advantage of easy access to cities with better facilities. Tashia identifies mental health services, especially in schools, as an area that needs attention in Swanville. Tashia identifies oral skills as something she would require in her study. Tashia also plans to base her research on answers from residents using a poll system. Tashia identifies the need to sensitize people on mental illness and the importance of a mental hospital.
I think Tashia is right to research the importance of mental health services in Swanville, but it would be better to research on the importance of general health services in the area. Untapped opportunities such as the lake have not been utilized in this area. Tashia identifies oral skills as the only skills she required for the research, yet conclusions cannot be made from basic answers. Tashia needs to acquire better skills in analysis and data science as a whole to help in cleaning data collected and analyzing it. Apart from the data obtained from interviewing residents, Tashia should investigate the benefits of having a mental hospital from data in nearby city’s medical records. Response from polls may take long to respond to, and some people may not send the answers. I think Tashia should consider using interviews in data collection instead of polls. I think apart from mental health services, a large general health facility such as hospital should be established in the area.
