The Times of India recorded a rather controversial story about a rape case that was determined as sex with consent. Suresh Kishnani’s lawyer requested the court for bail on similar grounds. The application was made in an attempt to showcase the rape charges as an attempt to implicate the accused wrongly. In his plea, the accused cited that the victim’s behavior did not befit a woman in that she was out at the bar alone at 1 am, which was a suspicious circumstance that would send the wrong signals. However, charges were administered on the basis that the accused administered a stupefying drug, which was considered to lack proof. These claims were further disputed on the basis that the victim did not raise alarm or try to escape from the car to attract the attention of onlookers. Thus, it was considered that the situation consented sex rather than rape.

In his article to the Canadian Press, Loriggio (2019) explained how an Ontario judge ordered a serial rapist to be jailed due to his refusal to get treatment for his violent sexual urges that could cause additional harm to women in the community. According to Justice Anne Molloy, the Superior Court Justice, the accused was a dangerous offender and sexual predator. Following his records in 2011, 2013, and 2016, it was clear that Anne Molloy was stimulated by coercive sexual acts. Records also show that the accused has a sexual paraphilic disorder and a high likelihood of sex with violence. Considering that sexual paraphilic has no cure, it was necessary to jail him to control his acts and effects on the community.

A special CBI court sentenced accused conmen to life imprisonment following a cheating case. The same court sentenced six accused conmen among them being a father (Manoharial Ahuja) and his son, Amit who cheated the bank by procuring a loan worth an Rs. 15 loan and credit letters of Rs. 1 crore through the use of forged and false documents of a non-existent plot of land as collateral. However, the Versov plot was a public jogger’s park rather than an open park. The accused conmen were required to deposit fine amounts that would be given to the Bank of India as compensation. Upon further investigation, it was verified that the Ahuja had conducted a fraud since the property could not get mortgaged.

Organizations in Canada have suffered white-collar crimes in the recent past significantly according to a report by Pricewaterhouse Coopers. The country reported a rate of 36% while global records stand at 37% owing to increased economic crimes, accounting fraud, procurement process, and cybercrime. Records showed that the sectors that were most vulnerable included communications, financial services, and retailing services. In order to combat white-collar crimes, organizations should invest in a strong control environment to reduce fraudulent activities and improve the chances of identifying such activities.
