TEACHING AS A PROFESSION
Presently, teaching as a profession has become a concept yet to be countered clearly. Among the dimensions of the characteristics of a profession, teaching comprises of these dimensions. A profession can be defined as a paid vocation which entails formal training and special skills. One has to be knowledgeable and attain a set of skills as teaching requires an understanding of the art and science of learning. Also, teaching is a crucial aspect of building other professions in society. Teaching is a broad concept that is characterized by multiple dimensions. Still, there are central similarities by which professionalism in teaching can be defined.
Primarily, teachers have to undergo theoretical and practical practices to attain a deeper understanding of teaching skills. Additionally, teachers have a responsibility to the student by providing educational qualifications. These responsibilities and obligations help teachers to maintain professional relationships with their students which is an aspect of professionalism[1]. Moreover, assessments are often done to acquire admissions into the teaching profession. Thus, teaching is not just a haphazard subject. Specific skill sets and norms are required to fit instituting positive self-concept in learners. Some of these characteristics displayed by teachers in imparting knowledge portray teaching as a profession.
In the present world of education, teachers help students realize their true passions by providing multiple opportunities to their students. Through a voluntary commitment to the students, teachers are dedicated to providing knowledge while simultaneously enlightening them. They shape the future of their students by giving them an art of living, which helps build society. Instead of focusing on the dimensions that make teaching a , people should focus on how its dimensions help shape the community.
