Online research is the most recent trending issue in the field of academics. This paper presents an analysis and discussion of a book titled “The American Yawp.” The book focuses mainly on American history. Particularly, the book seeks to serve as a guide to a student who are interested or those who encounter American history on their academic journeys. The book is quite informative when it comes to the presentation of American History. Furthermore, it is not a book written by one author. Instead, the book is collaboratively written, which makes it one of the best books that are suitable for the general readers and also for the courses offered in college-level institutions. The book is a merge up of knowledge and expertise of over three hundred historians and scholars who volunteered to share their knowledge of the American past with the 21st century readers. The book is in the form of open source material which means that it is readily available from the online sources at no cost. In its content, The American Yawp covers all the significant events and aspects that specifically relate to the past experiences of the Americans. Some of the major topics or subjects discussed in the book include the events that comprised the new world, some of the colliding cultures and the civil wars in America (Locke & Ben, 2015: 1-28). Other major subjects of discussion from the history of America concern the issues of religion and reforms, the history of democracy, the American Revolution, the new nation and the colonial society. These are not the only subjects that concern the American history because according to the book, America has quite a rich history.
Whenever there is a discussion concerning the history of America, this book remains to be one the best sources to cite in such a discussion. One of the major reasons to support the above statement is there are over 300 historians and scholars who provided their voluntary contribution of putting together the content presented in the book. That cannot be all about the book. It is good to appreciate that there are many articles or material that provides the history of America. However, it is the unique, detailed and comprehensive nature of the book that makes it a historically significant source for American history. The book is quite comprehensive because it talks about all the major historic events in America in a categorical manner where each event is discussed in details. Every person in America is an heir of American history. Everyone must understand that whatever America has now, starting from the government, religion, culture and everything else is derived from the American history. In that case, any material that provides a detailed report of such information remains to be relevant in society because it is the only material from which current and future generation learn about their roots. Those are not the only reasons that make the book to be historically significant. Consider the nature of the authors. The authors involved in writing the book were very close to time of the occurrence of most of the historical events in American history. For that reason, the book proves to provide credible information because some of it is from victims, participants and witnesses.in that case, “The American Yawp” is a book that will never lose its significance because it continues to revive the past of America to every coming generation.
