Mobile technology in nursing education:  where do we go from here?  A review of the literatureThe purpose of the article is to carry out a literature review exploring the use of mobile technology in nursing education, methodically discuss the benefits and concerns of mobile technology and develop a way forward of enhancing mobile technology in its use in nursing education. The population of interest of the article was articles published within the past five years and peer-reviewed the implementation of mobile technology in nursing education programs. Many nursing programs have already implemented the use of mobile technology in laboratories, classrooms, and clinical settings but face challenges in form of insufficient faculty acceptance, lack of IT support and lack of structured assignments which are necessary to make use of the technology more effective. The article identifies possible challenges that the integration of mobile technology in the nursing program will meet. This is important as it will help in putting place necessary plans that will minimize the challenges identified. The articles strengths are in the credibility of the articles reviewed as they are all from credible sources where only articles that have been reviewed are published. Further, the articles reviewed are within five years of the years the article was published making the findings more relevant to the current healthcare environment. On the hand, since the selection criteria locked many articles, there a possibility of more information that would have given more insights having been left out and this make generalization of the findings difficult. Based on the  John Hopkins guide the strength of  the  article represent level  5 strength  as is a meta-synthesis  of studies using  qualitative methods

Smartphones  and mobile applications (apps) in clinical nursing education: A student perspective

The purpose of the article  is to determine the importance of  considering students opinion when designing mobile technologies to be used in nursing programs

The population of interest of the article  was undergraduate nursing students

Most nursing students own smartphones but less than half of them makes use of mobile apps in clinical practice. This is as a result of the challenges experienced while using the phones but the majority of the students agree it is beneficial to integrate mobile technology in nursing programs.

The findings of the article are important to the research topic as they support the position that mobile technology can be of great help in nursing programs if there is coordination between students and faculties.

The strengths are in its use of a large sample size making it possible to generalize results. However, the weaknesses of the article are that it only considers challenges from the perspective of students yet faculty members that are also part of the nursing program are not considered.

Since it is a randomized study and using a true experimental design, this article has a level 2 strength.

Integrating mobile devices into the Nursing classroom

The purpose of the article was to find out the impact of integrating mobile devices in the learning of nursing students

The target population were nursing students

Learning from mobile devices  has got great impacts in facilitating the academic success of nursing students

The argument that integrating mobile technology in nursing programs helps in creating a learner-centered approach positively contributes to the topic by emphasizing the need of the technology. Further, the article suggests that integrating technology in learning opens up learning of  skills outside the confines of the traditional classroom  which  is important in suggesting that mobile technology will have benefits when introduced to the nursing program

The strengths of the article are in its view of the impact the technology will have on both the learner and the teacher making the findings more applicable to the research topic. On the other hand, the article focuses more on the benefits of mobile technology and in the process failing to point out possible challenges that need to be addressed before the success is achieved.

Being randomized and using experimental design, the study has a level 2 strength of evidence.

Nursing students’  perceptions of using  smartphones in community  practicum: A qualitative study

The  purpose of the article was to find out why the millennial generation is more comfortable with technology  yet  they are limited in using  smartphones  in the context of  clinical practice

The target was nursing students taking part in community practicum

The researchers find out that students have unclear expectations in relation to the use of smartphones in nursing programs which forces to adopt individual strategies to keep their professional image.

The article is of significance  to  the topic of research  as it points at the possible impediments that may make integration of mobile technology in nursing programs a  failure

The article has strengths in that it makes use of primary data to make its conclusions making the findings more credible. Further, the article directly investigates the perceptions of students about the use of smartphones in community practicum which is the topic of research. The weakness of the article is however  on the use of a  small sample size making it difficult to generalize the findings

The study is nonrandomized and as a result of using qualitative research, the article has level 6 strength.

(Lee et  al., 2016)Mobile-Based  video learning outcomes in clinical nursing skill educationThe purpose of the article to find out the effects that a mobile video clip has on the level of competence, motivation and class satisfaction in nursing studentsThe target was nursing studentsThe researchers find out that video clips using mobile devices are useful tools in the teaching of clinical skills as it improves learning outcomes. The article is of significance to the topic of research as it shows a difference that exists when mobile technology is used in nursing programs and when it is not used.

The strengths of the article are in the use of both experiment and control group making it easier to compare results. Further, the researchers made use of a large sample size which makes it possible to generalize the findings of the article to a larger population in the same nursing program. On the hand, the weaknesses of the article are that the researchers made use of students from one college and only evaluated the impact of mobile technology in one nursing skill. This could make it difficult to confidently generalize results. The results  in the study are based  on qualitative  studies with samples being randomly chosen, the article has level 2 strength of evidence
