Immigrant women in Canada and the U.S. face different challenges based on their different ages. The challenges young immigrant women face are different from those older immigrant women face. Among young immigrants, those in young marriages get separated from their spouses for an extended period due to systemic immigration policies. In most instances, one person from a couple is allowed for an immigrant status before their partner is allowed after a significant period. These policies have existed since the first settlement of British and French immigrants in the newly discovered lands of Canada and the U.S., where Asian women were not allowed immigrant statuses in Canada. That way,  immigrant Asian men who wanted to move with their spouses separated from their families, causing marital problems such as Intimate Partner Violence, extramarital relationships, and later on divorce in extreme cases. Young women who are still under the custody of parents have to ensure the pressure of living lie to maintain social snd cultural standards from their identities after exposure to westernization. Young Indian and Chinese women have been the most affected due to their strong cultural backgrounds. On the other hand, older immigrant women struggle with language problems and finances since they depend on their extended families for survival.

Response

The challenge of cultural influences of westernization has caught my attention the most, especially when considering modernity. Many immigrants going into Canada and the U.S are from Asian backgrounds, which have healthy traditional and cultural practices for their women. For instance, Indian women are meant to dress in a not revealing way, which is a culture that young Indian women immigrants find hard to keep up with. Therefore, they end up battling depression as they struggle to embrace both worlds.
