The complexity of the US Educational System
In United States education system was designed by a cohort of enthusiasts that would address the needs of the industrial revolution. However, the existing system fails to address emerging needs such as climate change and other requirements of hyper-connected America. The bitter reality is that the current education system ceased to be functional implying the mess with the country hands. Once upon a time, it was useful but currently is opposite, and it seems that nobody seems to care with inventors appearing to look for simple solutions. The US education system is the complexity and failing to address the current needs of an evolving society.
The education system is not working with the first indication being the absence of diversity in gifted education and talent development. The criterion for determining talents and gifts is based on the brightest learner in most of its stages, such as elementary education, TAG initiatives. Despite the approach appearing attractive, it is often monotone in terms of practice and boring as the case with the current learning institutions. If you look at the outcomes posted by district schools it underscores the need to come with a better ways to detect talent while implementing better approach than the best learner model. It explains the reason why real transformations take place by small margins
The system also does not consider the importance of teacher education innovation, given that the learners are evolving, then a similar thing should happen to the tutors. For instance, put into perspective tutors in a learning environment wherein US past teachers were hired with no training; hence wrangles were the order of the day. The outcome was a drunken semi-illiterate relative given the role of teaching twelfth grade. In the 20th century the tutor had no skills on the best manner to prepare and teach lessons. In recent recruitment, most of the tutors cannot guide students’ on teenage cognition. Also, they were not equipped with skills in handling students from diverse backgrounds (Schneider, 2). The current education system has is own flows meaning there is a lot of work to be done. In contemporary society, there is no assurance that US teacher is well equipped than that of the past.
The contemporary results produced by the current education system speak volumes of the gaps that exist. The critics of the system argue that the scores fail to be near impressive with the differences evident across the ethnic, racial, and income cohorts. In the last four decades, the most significant casualties of the education system that arises are reported from students of Hispanic and African Americans learners. The US system might be doing well than exam oriented nations such as Korea and Taiwan in global ranking but fall short of others such as Norway. The sad reality is that students from the minority communities are lost within the school to prison pipeline. Half of the students of black American origin that attend urban schools fail graduation. More than half of these that drop out end up being in prison. It reflects the gaps in the education system by defining some learners as destined for academic failure. The answer is that the US education system is too complicated that it fails to provide solutions to the problems affecting contemporary society.
