Today we are currently on a collision path with a virus which has put the whole world on lockdown. As a student I have to go back home and leave my small apartment which I share with my friends because my mother worries a lot about me being far away from the rest of the family. The world grapples with the possibility of a recession never seen in the current past if we do not find a lasting solution to a halt. People, including my older siblings who have families are losing their jobs which is making payment of bills to become very hard. The virus forces people who are out of their jobs to file for unemployment claims and it will have a significant impact on the economy. With movement of flights stopped, movement of people and some goods has been hit hard including my plan to visit Latin America later in the year.
The Coronavirus brings to a halt sporting events that rake in billions of dollars to the economy. Cancellation of these events is because it will not be possible to maintain social distances as the experts recommend among the players themselves and the fans. World over we see sportsmen who are taking pay cuts to assist in the fight of Covid19. International trade has taken a hit since at the moment what is being allowed to move through cargo planes and ships is the most essential goods that are being put to use in the fight of the virus. There are countries that rely on tourism and during the pandemic it is a dark day for them since most countries have closed borders.
I have new experiences due to the virus. Firstly, learning online exclusively without attending classes is one of the new experiences. Also, I have an interest in nutrition and I have taken up online classes on how to maintain a healthy diet especially at this time when doctors are encouraging us to stay healthy and consume food that will boost our immune system. Staying at home with the whole family looks like thanksgiving but on a daily basis. We are having more family time and it has been of help since we are now working on our kitchen garden so that we can plant some crops since grocery stores are affected.
The Coid19 has some positive aspects. For example, as human beings we realize how much time we have on our hands. We use this time to reflect on our life goals, whether we are on course or whether we need to re-adjust or change them completely. Also, we realize how much money we waste in buying non-essential stuff that only fill our stores in future. These are things that we can live without. Working out has been put on many peoples’ daily schedules. Those people who have been complaining about lack of time to work out have a lot on their hands. Also, on a positive note, the environment has taken a sigh of relief. With the closure of many industries around the world including China. Essentially there is a reduction in carbon emissions, and the level of nitrogen dioxide has also fallen. Therefore, the sky is close to being clear because of reduction in pollution. Finally, people are not going out and what it essentially means is that the amount of plastics in our environment is reducing.
