The employees that are working on the various sectors and industries globally need benefits and merits that will boost their motivation. This will assist in maintaining a good rapport between the employers and employees. This will keep the employees motivated and even push them to work harder to achieve the organization’s objectives and goals. The benefits vary from different employers and different employment sectors existing globally. The hospitality industry is very much praised for the versatile employee benefits that it offers as compared to the other industries. Among the benefits are the mandatory and the discretionary benefits that are offered to the employees.

The mandatory benefits are the compensation policies that have been developed in the industry. The compensation policies are used to determine the benefits that are rewarded to the employees for the work done. The basic benefit that is expected to be issued is the salary and the basic pay. The pay is given either on a salaried or hourly basis as per the Employment Standards Act of each State and Country that the employer operates. The employees exempted from the overtime regulations are paid on a salaried basis, however, differs for the non- exempt employees who are paid on an hourly basis. The non- exempt employees are subject to overtime provisions.

Mandatory benefits

The employees are scheduled to work less than 40 hours a week and less than 12 months annually that will be paid on an hourly basis. This benefit is issued either hourly, weekly, semi-monthly and monthly that the workers receive regularly.  The regular positions for the employees are full and part-time employees. These employees are deemed to receive various benefits such as a regular payment system. The payment system may vary from weekly, monthly for full-time employees. Part-time or hourly employees will be paid at least the minimum wage as directed by provincial legislation. This differs for the part-time employees who are paid on piece rate kind of system.

Transfer and Market Adjustments

The other benefit is the transfer. The transfer is the movement of the employee from one position to another and in most cases in a different location. The transfer is different from the promotion as the employee may move in the same work position as before. The considerations that are taken into place during transfer are the expansion of their knowledge depth and increasing their career development opportunities as well. The employees are requested to transfer for career development and for businesses purposes to make it more competitive as compared to the other employers in the region. Discretionary benefits

The leave policies are divided into various sections such as the pregnancy and maternity leave, annual leave, sick leave, bereavement and the funeral leave.  The annual leave is given in a 21 day leave. The other benefit accorded to the employees is the bereavement and funeral leave. The funeral leave is given to an employee whose spouse has died. The employee is given to at least 14 days’ leave to bereave the dead spouse. The bereavement leave is given to the employees whenever any close relative to the employee dies. The close relatives are stated as follows the children, parents and brothers and sisters as well. In some organizations and employees, some employees are given monetary benefits to compensate them from the loss. The compensation is also to help them maintain them during the hard and trying times that they are facing.

Health and Safety Benefits

Among the discretionary benefits are the health and safety benefits that are issued as well. The benefits are to cushion the employees from any dangers that may reach the employees when they are at work. The safety benefits include the protective attire that the employees are required to wear while they are work. This will help protect them against any danger that may befall them when they are working. The other safety measurements are the provision of pieces of equipment by the employer. The pieces of equipment include fire extinguishers that are installed at the hotels and kitchens that will help the hoteliers in case of any fire outbreak.

The other materials include the provision of gloves for the employees. The gloves will help in a big way to keep the environment clean. It will help the employees keep the employees protected from any bacteria that may not be seen by bare eyes. The gloves are also used to protect the consumers of the hospitality industry that include the hotels and the tourism sector. The other measures put in place by the industry is by the utilization of a clean working environment. The environment is kept clean by the regular cleaning of the floor surfaces, kitchen surfaces and the other surfaces that the employees work on.

The other safety benefits that are used by the hospitality industry are the injury and workplace accidents measures. They are put in place to guide the policies and regulations that are used to protect the employees working in the hospitality industry in case of accidents and injuries at their workplaces. These benefits are mostly issued out in monetary terms. The amounts are given to the employees whenever injuries and accidents befall them. They are to be reimbursed in terms of how the employee has been affected by the accident. This benefit is to cushion the employees and return them to their initial state before the accident occurred.
