The Farmer and the Golden Goose
- There once lived a farmer in a particular village with his wife.
- The family was not very rich except their little farm for
- The farmer, therefore, used his small harvest from the farm
- to sell in the market. He saved little each day, and when it was
- enough, he bought a goose. The farmer
- then built a right house for the goose and kept her
- there feeding daily.
- The goose started laying eggs and
- on the first day when the farmer went to collect,
- he found that it was a golden egg!
- The farmer was pleased, and he went ahead to
- tell his wife the great news. They decided to sell the eggs
- and each day the goose laid a golden egg, and they kept on selling
- They were becoming so rich! One day, the wife greedily
- suggested to her husband that they find a way to
- get all the golden eggs out of the goose instead of waiting
- every day for a new egg.
- The husband agreed in vanity. On the next day,
- the husband quietly picked up the goose from
- her house and slaughtered her. However, they were very disappointed
- to find that the goose was not different from
- any other kind of a goose. The family lost both the goose and her daily miracle of a golden egg.
- They started to become poor once more.
