The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is a dystopian story. The Capitol rules over the district after winning a war between the two. In return, the Capitol holds hunger games in which each district has to choose two contestants. When Katniss heard her sister was chosen for the contest, she volunteered to take up her place to represent district 12 together with Peeta. The story is about people trying to survive in a world overtaken by a few selfish individuals. It is a story that is beyond the struggle of a young girl; it is about inequality.

Collins uses pane to show the social injustices of the world. The Capitol exploited the people of the district for their pleasure. While the districts are suffering from lack, the Capitol is overflowing. While this is a dystopian work, one can help but draw parallelism with the world’s current state. The gap between the poor and the rich gets wider each day. The rich people exploited the poor for their amusement. The chemistry between Katniss and pieta gives the book a realism feel to it. It was a nice break from all the horrible things around the characters in the book. Perhaps the most endearing thing about the book is the loyalty and the ability for people to survive anything thrown at them. Everyone wants a good ending. Human beings have been able to overcome so much. Katniss is proof that human beings can achieve anything.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is the first book in a trilogy. It will get anyone hooked. Collis has a way of capturing the attention of the readers to the last book. This book is, however, not for very young adults because of the content. It is a must-read.
