The impact of bad policing in education
Educational policies refer to the well-planned principles which guide on the daily operation of the educational institutions. As the years’ progress, the policies evolve to suit the current society to which it operates. The policies dictate various fields like; who should be educated, who should do the teaching, where one can be educated, the cost of education and the stands to be used in measuring education. The policymakers include; teachers, students, the school administration, school representatives and even reformists.
When there are bad policies in the education sector, many issues will raise up. Bad policing leads to lack of accountability in the schools. The teachers become reluctant, since, there is no measure of their productivity at work. Good polices call for accountability, and which is carried out through testing of the teachers and the ranking of the schools through having the students to perform a common set of exams for evaluation.
Lack of education policies equates to the exploitation of the parents by the school administration through the charging of high amounts of school fees since there are no existing guidelines on how much fees one should be charged. The curriculum is also not adhered to, which leads to the production of half baked students and college graduates who cannot bear with the job completion requirements when they apply for jobs.
As to who should deliver the education is a factor that should be determined by the set-out policies. When there are no existing guidelines, under qualified personnel are likely to be employed. The end result is usually poor delivery of education to the students and poor administration in schools.
When it comes to the issue of schools, parents are usually the key players. With poor policies in place, parents tend to lack the platform to air their complainants and are usually left out in the implementation of the same policies. Issues of bribery arise and the safety of the children and the quality of education delivered is compromised. Safety and health of the children an important factor that should not be ignored. With bad policies, the required health standards are not followed with results in the health threats of the children. The safety of the children can never be guaranteed, because there are no set out rules in regards to security and who can access the school. Bad policies can result in the abduction of the children or violent attacks to the children.
For a proper functioning education system, there is a need for well laid out policies with act as the guidelines in the running of the schools. The policies addressed should be able to cover the safety of the children in schools, school improvement policy and even special education policies that carter for children living with disabilities. Policies that cover code of conduct should be outlined and should address the issues of racism and bullying in the schools.
Penalties should be set out to watch on the schools that breach the rules and regulations that have been set out. There should also be an independent watchdog body which will investigate and prosecute school administrations who encourage corruption.
