The Impact of Violent Video Games on Society
Many think that violent
video games are conventional sources of entertainment. One point is
certain-they have adverse effects. These games are gaining popularity,
especially among young people. Most of them have options in which a player can
either kill, attack, wound, or sexually assault a portrait of a person. Various
effects are as a result of these brutal video games. Here are some of them.
- Frequent fights
Children and adolescents
who are wild video games fanatics tend to fight a lot. They are always ready to
attack. All the moves they see on those games are at their fingertips.
Wrestling games have different fighting styles that are mostly not meant for
trying at home. Many turn out to be irresponsible trouble makers. Some even
cause fights in schools. The next thing you know, they are given suspensions or
expulsions.
- Hostility cases
Violent video games may
cause or even worsen hostility and unfriendliness. That’s why kids and young
adults sometimes become too stubborn to listen to their elders. Such
repercussions are as a result of the ruthlessness and vicious attacks in those
games. They make them emotionless, especially those who play them for too long.
- May lead to mass shooting events
This effect is a result
of games that mostly involve guns. Some games reward points upon the death of
another ‘person’ in the game. These consistent young players may then end up
becoming serial killers. The urge to turn fantasies into realities may
influence them to act someday.
- Brain damages
The rate at which video
game addiction is increasing in the world is quite alarming. In June 2018, the
World Health Organization proclaimed gaming addiction a mental disorder.
Extreme focus on these games may be too much to handle, especially for the
youngsters. They may even get depression
or anxiety disorders if you forbid them from playing.
As much as violent video
games are toxic, they can still assist in reducing stress. Nonetheless, they
bear more negativity than positivity. Parents should guide their kids early
enough to protect their current and future social life.
