The implementation of the IOM framework
The implementation of the recommendations given by the Institute of Medical reports emphasizes on providing accessible quality care and the improvement of healthcare systems. The Institute of Medicine developed a framework that aims at improving healthcare, and it advocates for services that are timely, equitable, patient-centred, effectuate, and safe to the public (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, n.d.). There is a need to give more people access to healthcare, and this requires the involvement of all healthcare providers such as pharmacists, nurses and physicians. The nurses who constitute the largest workforce can be useful in increasing the level of healthcare accessibility by the public both on the private and public sector
The implementation of the IOM framework pushes the healthcare providers to improve the quality of services they offer to their consumers. The consumers are also in a position to demand the right services because they are informed. Measures of Health care quality are divided into three, i.e. outcome, structure, and process measure (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, n.d.). The three measures aim at examining how the healthcare provider improves or maintain health to customers through the systems, capacity and processes in the healthcare centre.
The implementation of the IOM will benefit the consumers because they will be getting value for the money used on healthcare services. The implementation will not be affecting the profitability or add operation cost because the framework focuses on improving efficiency in the way healthcare services are delivered to the consumers. The simple framework by IOM is user friendly, and consumers can easily understand and relate it to their healthcare concerns. The implementation of this framework will improve the healthcare services, and it is the responsibility of the government and healthcare providers to give public quality healthcare services.
