The Indigo Girls
Who?
The concert was performed by a band named ‘The Indigo Girls’. The band consists of two singers, namely, Emily Saliers and Amy Rays (Law, 26). This concert was organized so that fans can have Livestream access to performance and Q& A as if they were watching it live. This option was arrived at to compensating for the canceled tour due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Despite the global problem of Coronavirus that has shut down almost all activities, the Indigo girls announced to satisfy their fans by meeting their scheduled performances online. This decision played a significant role in upholding longtime history where The Indigo Girls band has never failed their fans since it was formed in 1987. The two singers first met in elementary school and started joint performance as high school students in parts of the Atlanta metropolitan area, in Decatur, and Georgia (ABLUTZ et al., 17). They began performing under the Indigo Girls band when they were still students at Emory University. They made a weekly performance at The Dugout, a bar in Emory during that time. They first released their self-produced full-length album by the title Strange Fire in 1987 (Law, 24). The group became popular, and in 1988, it contracted with famous companies. The band has released nine albums with major labels from 1987 to 2007, and they now focus on self-producing albums and managing their own IG Recording Company.
What?
Indigo Girls band is American rock-folk music with duo nature from Atlanta, Georgia, United States (ABLUTZ et al., 17). They have toured as a duo and with a band throughout their history of performance. They toured with Atlanta band of the Ellen James Society that backed them significantly in 1990. The Indigo Girls have also visited with side players were the first group of history overs from 1991 to 1998, the second one from 1999 to 2006, and the third one covering 2012 onwards (Law, 19). The concert reminded the audience about their first hit “Closer To Fine,” which scored #26 on the modern rock chart and #52 on the famous music chart. Some of us who never had an opportunity to listen to “Closer To Fine” felt it on that day (Law, 19). Older people roared with happiness as they compared the perfection of the concert with that of “Closer To Fine.”
When?
The Livestream was performed on Thursday, Match 19th 2020, on duo’s Facebook at 6:00 pm. Saliers and Ray declared that the heart-wrenching moment to cancel public shows scheduled for March and April would inconvenience and replaced with online streaming. There is a slight delay due to low network coverage at the beginning.
Where?
The venue of the concert is at the Fair Grounds Race Course. It has a spacious appearance that can accommodate their performance while maintaining the proposed social distance to reduce the spread of Coronavirus. The largeness of the venue is depicted from two singers standing from about 1.5 meters apart during the performance. The venue works well for this music because it is a big, brightly lit, and spacious room with only two performers.
How?
The band performed on Livestream, where singers Emily Saliers and Amy Rays could be watched online. The entire performance was perfect except for some network issues in the course of streaming. Arrangement of singers at about one meter from each other while maintaining their sounds and theme made the concert enjoyable. However, streaming still requires much improvement in the network coverage for the audience to access the original music. Generally, the performance touched the audience’s feelings and gave a positive response towards the music.
Personal opinion
The band was so good for me. Even though there were only two singers, they balanced their voices to that of instruments so well and remained attractive throughout the performance. I reward them a thumbs up.
