The Intelligent Procurement System Project

The intelligent procurement system project was an idea of John Casper, the C.E.O. of the Havard City Complex. This was a convention centre that was being constructed in the United States to be a global destination centre. Casper decided to involve Bill Miller, the C.E.O. of Venso Information Technology Company, to develop an intelligence system for the complex. Eventually, during the first event done at the complex, the intelligence system was ineffective, and this led to the mayor’s remark that it was a failure and its performance was not matching up to the prestigious status of the City Complex. I do not agree with the mayor’s decision. This is because it cast all the blame on Venso, although it was not their fault. Bill Miller had previously declined to install the system because the first phase of the complex construction was underway. He had clearly explained to Casper that for the installation to be successful, the system must have been included in the plan before the commencement of the project so that it could be effectively integrated. However, he was convinced to still set it up. John Bill tried to install it but was faced with numerous challenges, especially after the resignation of Casper. The rest of the team members had varied opinions and even decided to make changes to the information system, which was a great inconvenience to the Venso team. John Bill’s attempt to resolve the issues failed because they were non-responsive when he raised various concerns. All these factors contributed to an ineffective system and, hence, it was not right for Venso Company to cast all the blame on Venso Company. I think Venso should use their company’s lawyer to file a case against the mayor. This is because it is unfair for them to pay the $1.25 million fine to the tenants when it was the mistake of the management of the Havard City Complex (Project, 2020).

Lessons Learnt from this Case

There are various lessons to be learnt from this case. They include; offering quality services when undertaking tasks. From the case study, we can appreciate the effort that Venso Company made in ensuring that they provided quality services in the Havard City Complex. However, they were faced with various challenges that made their project unsuccessful in the end. We can also learn the importance of having strong leadership in a project. The project was successful and operating effectively until the resignation of Casper. Instead of the board appointing another C.E.O., they decided to divide tasks. This ultimately led to the fall of the company (Bizhoev, 2018).
