the lessons I learned during the project management process

Introduction

I had the opportunity to take part in project management and this has made me come up with a reflective report to show what took place during that process. Project management has grown rapidly in the 21st century. Project management involves the management of resources to ensure there is the completion of a project. The module gave me the chance to understand how to manage projects effectively through the use of necessary systems, techniques, and tools of project management. The report explains the lessons I learned during the project management process. The paper also covers the contribution I made to the group and my personal development plan for the future.

Lessons learned during the process

The project management process was smooth and there are several lessons which were learned during that process and include:

Scale and scope of project management in the private and public sector

Project management is essential in both the private and public sectors. The private sector has been in the front line to use project management in its operations to ensure they can identify the dangers which are associated with the problems in the organizations. The sector has used different tools that make project management effective and efficient. Gantt chart is one of the tools which can be used in the project to ensure the management and planning of projects by breaking down projects into smaller activities to be performed. Timelines and calendars are also essential tools that can be applied. The scale and scope of project management in the public sector show that there has been an improvement in the way they perceive their operations. There have been improvements done in the tools used in project management in government organizations contributing to the successes of those organizations. Project management has been advancing fast in the private sector than in the public sector. There is a need for the public sector to ensure that they embrace the practices used by the private sector in utilizing the available resources to enable good project management.

Strategy to ensure effective use of resources, assets, and people within the project

During the process of project management, I was able to learn that the best strategy of ensuring the use of resources and the workforce in a project is planning. Project planning is the process of ensuring that everything is set up for the completion of the project within a set of timeframe and designated resources used. Planning ensures that the right resources are used in the right task and in the required period in a project so that there are no wastes. When the strategy is used, the resources for the completion of the processes in the project are identified first. Time estimation needed by the inputs in the tasks is put and the role of resources in project completion.

Systems and organizational culture that ensure successful project management approach

I learned that one of the project management approaches is lean manufacturing. The goal of this approach is to ensure that the customer gets a high-quality product.  The plan requires a lean management system to work effectively in project management. The technique involves a change initiative with the support of all stakeholders.  An organizational culture that ensures an effective lean manufacturing technique is a lean culture. At the same time, lean culture enhances proper time management and reduction of waste in the production process. The lean culture is customer-oriented and aims at giving the best product to the customer at the right time. A business reengineering approach is another project management approach. The strategy aims at improving product quality and product output while saving on production costs. The plan requires an adaptive system that can readily accept changes and innovations. Effective organizational communication is the corporate culture that ensures effective business reengineering. The way the management conveys information to employees influences their acceptance or rejection of a change.  The approach success where there is a flow of information to employees.
