the native writers have made a considerable contribution to portraying Native Americans
Part 2
What I have come to learn is that the native writers have made a considerable contribution to portraying Native Americans in a manner that people have come to think about them. It dates back to historical writers who wrote specific stories about Native Americans. The stories created presumed notions about Native Americans, that portray them as bad people. The representation of Native Americans as violent people has not started recently, but it started a long time ago and is still ongoing. Most of the writers portray Indians Americans as brutal and barbarous people who always carry knives around, while portraying European-Americans, as the victims of Natives violence, and they are the innocent ones. The continuing perception of Indians as dangerous people, in literature directly contributes to negative expectations from the Natives, a well as the expectation of lousy interaction and negative consequences on these people. However, the representation of Indians in books, as voiced by different writers, prevents people from seeing Indians as who they are. Instead, people choose to follow what they have read in the books and believe it. It is also clear that the negative stereotypes of Natives are more documented than the positivity that the Natives possess. Any violence, suicide, or homicide cases are so quick to be recorded, leaving out the good Native traits that people need to read and understand about Native Americans. However, the culture of Indians has been stereotyped as hilarious, such that people become comfortable using it in all sorts of funny ways. American children in plays use Indian culture and Halloween parties, and this portrays Natives culture as one confused and distorted culture. Native writers are to partly blame for creating these types of stereotypes for Native Americans. However, the writers should try and change their mode of writing to adopt a more positive approach towards natives. It is hard to change the Native writers since it started a long time ago, but the upcoming writers can try to change and adapt a better way of writing about Natives. Lastly., I have learned that using Indian culture in hilarious ways is common because they have stereotyped their culture. For the past few years, we have been using Indian culture and dressing as a common way to celebrate Halloween. Last Halloween, everyone in our family dressed up in the Indian culture to celebrate Halloween, and we thought it was hilarious. I now know that it is better to use people’s perception as a way to appreciate them, rather than using the cultures to make fun of them.
