Many themes are dealt with in the poem collections The Carrying by Ada Limon. Some of the topics include parenthood and parental love in poems such as The Raincoat. The other topic includes the role of the natural world and its relevance to a man in poems such as The Burying Beetle and Sparrow, What did You Say. The other topic includes crime and illegal drug trafficking in poems such as Bust in which a Columbian lady tries to traffic drugs but the plan fails.

Question 2 uestionterment of the life of their children as seen in the poem Raincoat by Ada Limon. Parents sacrifice everything o

While parenthood is through Jason and Medea in Euripides Medea and Roy seemed chaotic in certain instances, in The Carrying poems, parents especially mothers have been depicted as caring and loving by Ada Limon. Parents sacrifice everything for the betterment of the life of their children as seen in the poem Raincoat where a mother takes critical care of her daughter as they visit the hospital. The mother would always sing as they went to the doctor for physiotherapy. Therefore, while parents sacrifice so much for their children, it becomes imperative to have their children appreciate reciprocity.

Question 3

The Burying Beetle discusses trees, animals, and plants and the role they play in the world. The speaker finds satisfaction in the natural world more than anything. The speaker is intertwined with the natural world breathing with plants and animals. This poem creates a surreal and illuminating moment that the natural world brings such as crawling beetles and the growing plants. The speaker admits that she can spend her whole time watching the plants grow and beetles crawl. The natural world is a source of joy and satisfaction. This allows the speaker to feel part of something bigger. The desire to feel small, not powerless, but part of something larger than life carries the speaker through all days.

Question 4

Ada Limon starts her poem collections with a more philosophical tone when she questions the naming process of animals and plants. The poem is very accurate, brave, and tender. The poem A Name is the first in these collections and explores the ambiguous and honest moments such as those of naming animals. The poem also sets a high bar for women when the speaker claims Eve as the person who named animals. The poem Sparrow, What did You Say   is about an attempt to conceive the meaning of a woman. In this final poem, nature has reconciled the ambivalence of the speaker and meditates the loss. The speaker says that she spends her time gardening and contemplates what her life would be is she was capable of giving birth. She further questions what her life would be if she had a child. It is therefore clear that the path of this speaker is to listen to nature and pursue what nature has for her. As such, this poem is typically about the power of nature.

Question 5

The poem Dead Stars makes a voice to human beings to be responsible for dealing with the natural world. While the natural world is beautiful, human beings have destroyed it. The natural world has therefore lost its glory. The speaker says my mouth is full / of dust and I wish to reclaim the rising”? This means that the pollution and destruction of the natural world are irritating and she has to speak out about this menace. Man must bargain for the safety of the world and other people through the conservation of nature.
