THE POST
The Post is a film about American political and historical thriller. The movie is about women empowerment in the fields that are dominated by males. Katharine Graham stars in the film. She works as a publisher in the major American newspaper, The Washington Post. She is working together with editor Ben Bradlee in their pursuit to uncover major secrets that span four of U.S presidents. They are working together while risking their career and freedom to try to uncover the long-buried truth. In the movie, Katherine Graham symbolizes women’s empowerment and gender roles in the 1960s.
Katherine graham standout as a symbol of reforms needed for gender roles. In the post, Graham offers a wake-up call to ensure equality of genders in journalism. Leadership roles were purely for men (legendarywomen, 2018). However, after the death of her husband, Graham did not shy off to take-up the role. She is also presented as the first female publisher working for The Washington Post. She also played a huge role in releasing pentagon papers that exposed the deception of the American government during the Vietnam War. At the end of The Post, Graham walks out of Supreme Court as she gains victory of her case. This metaphorically shows women’s empowerment has won.
After the resignation of his father, the father decided to pass the leadership to her husband due to myogenic culture. Graham played the role of supportive wife for the whole period of her husband’s leadership. After her husband’s death, she resumed the leadership role. It is in this post that she evolved and become an iconic women empowerment symbol. Before she took assumed the role, the wage difference between males and females in journalism was 63%. Today the gap has reduced to less than 20% with equality both in leadership posts and journalism fields enhanced.
