Title:

The Practice of Yoga Daily by a College Student for Half an Hour before Sleep Can Elevate Sleep Quality and Help Relieve Tensions

Background:

Several independent studies have indicated a concise relation between sleep and the resulting productivity, physical and mental health in an adult’s life. The practice of Yoga was used in this case as it was noted to help in the enhancement of sleep patterns which are integral in ensuring productivity.

Objective:

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between yoga practices before sleep  and its impact on an individual’s sleep patterns and productivity.

Methods:

Data was collected and evaluated with daily recordings in a Sleep Log and PSQI questionnaire completed weekly. The experiment involves the control phase and the experimental phase which occurs over a six week period. The control phase involved recording the number of times the individuals wakes up at night for three weeks. The remaining weeks consist of the yoga practice 30 minutes prior to bedtime. The phone’s timer app is necessary for accurate recordings.

Results:

Results from the sleep log led to conclusions that practicing yoga 30 minutes prior to going to bed significantly enhances sleep quality and productivity in the next day’s activities. The average sleep time increased from 6.8 hours to 8.3 hours and almost no insomnia in the control week of the experimental.

Conclusions:

The conclusions from this experiment concur with data from several researchers regarding the practice of yoga for half an hour before sleeping times can significantly improve sleep quality and productivity of an individual. . However, extensive research on an individual’s underlying factors such as mental health is necessary before considering the effects of yoga on the expected results
