Quality of Life Wheel
There are some changes in my quality of life self-care wheel scores. For instance, my score in the passion category has improved from four to seven while I have also scored eight in rest and recreation, which is an improvement because I had initially scored five. Besides, on a scale of 1-10, I can assert that my score of level of stress and tension is 4. This is because I have learned to rest and take part in activities that relieve stress more. I have also created time to engage in things like cooking that I am passionate about.
I had earlier identified some strategies to help me maintain my areas of strength and improve on my weaknesses. I have tried to implement most of the strategies, although I still find others challenging to implement. For example, to improve my scores in the passion category, I had planned to enroll in a cooking course to improve my cooking skills. I have, however, not been able to do that because of my busy schedule. I had intended to attend even classes, but I have realized that doing so would be very exhausting, especially after attending my nursing classes during the day. However, I have opted to be watching cooking videos on YouTube in my free time to improve my skills. That would be less exhausting than attending a physical class. I had also planned to be preparing for my family breakfast, and dinner on Saturdays and Sundays. I have been able to achieve this, and I feel so much fulfilled. I usually come up with unique recipes that my family enjoys.
My improved scores in the rest/recreation category can be attributed to the fact that I implemented some earlier proposed strategies. I have, for example, changed my sleeping pattern. I nowadays ensure that I go to bed by nine p.m. I then wake up at 5 a.m. By doing so, I sleep for at least eight hours. This has been significantly improved my moods and concentration in class and at work. I had also intended to be going out with my friends to boost my scores in the rest/recreation category. This has been rather challenging because my friends and I have different work and school schedules. Besides, most of my friends do not enjoy swimming and going on road trips as much as I do. I have therefore opted to join them in things that they enjoy, such as watching movies.
I had also proposed some strategies to help me maintain my areas of strength, which are finance and the environment. While I have maintained my scores in those categories, I have not been able to implement some strategies such as opening a savings bank account. After careful consideration, I realized that my current earning is just enough to cover my monthly needs. Therefore, saving 20 percent of it as I had planned may compromise some of my bills and lead to a financial strain. I have therefore put those plans on hold until when I will be earning a better salary. In the meantime, I have opted to save using a piggy bank. This is an easier alternative to saving money and keeping the loose change. It also has less commitment than opening a savings account.
Withdrawal regulations (Mastrogiacomo & Alessie, 2015). I already bought my piggy bank, and I find it very helpful so far. I had also intended to carry a shopping list whenever I go shopping. This has been much easier to implement. It simplifies my shopping as I hardly forget anything. Besides, it has enabled me to keep impulse shopping at bay, thus saving more money.
Besides finance, I have maintained my scores in the environment. I have maintained the habit of recycling and reusing my plastic bags and containers. I have also identified a company that recycles plastic in my locality, and I always strive to take the plastics that I no longer use there. I, however, have a challenge with consistency. I, at times, get too occupied to take them there every week as I had planned. To protect the environment further, I have decided to minimize the number of times I use my car in a week. This is because cars emit greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, which significantly contribute to global warming. The gases lead to a rise in global temperatures by trapping heat (Manning, 2017). Therefore, I will be using public transport or cycling as much as possible to reduce the amount of greenhouse gas being emitted into the atmosphere. Therefore, the quality of life wheel has enabled me to keep track of my areas of strength and weaknesses.
