The reading selection
The reading selection that most resonated with me was It’s not just grammar: It’s clear
thinking. Rushkoff, D. states in his article “In most jobs, the ability to write clearly and
unambiguously remains an essential skill”. In my workplace the need for a language enabled
analyst is essential for the success of the mission. The ability to read and writing properly is the
best qualification for a good Language enabled analyst. “So yes, an employee who can write
properly is far more valuable and promotable than one whose ambiguous text is likely to create
confusion, legal liability and embarrassment.” (Rushkoff, D.)
In my workplace, we have/need language enabled analysts. The Government hires people
with unique language abilities for the success of the mission. At my workplace, the language
enabled analyst is required to provide language translation and coordinate assessments/results
with the client. The qualification for a language enabled analyst must have a Level III in Defense
Language Proficiency Test (DLPT) or equivalent American Council on the Teaching of Foreign
Languages (ACTFL) level for the following languages: Russian, Chinese/Mandarin, Persian
Farsi, Korean, French, Spanish, Arabic. Additionally, they are expected to provide transcription,
translation, and transliteration of data from the foreign language to English and from English to
the foreign language in speech, writing, and typing.
My core values play a huge roll in the hiring of potential individuals for the language
enabled analyst position. If individuals represent my core values, such as integrity, trust and
honesty will make for a great employee.
