The Seed
While many companies set targets and standards for what they expect of their employees, some take them seriously while others assume that as a joke, and therefore they fail to be productive. In most of these companies, one key thing is that to be successful; you ought to honour and live the companies’ values in their day-to-day lives to achieve their goals. But what mostly happens is that most employees go against these values of the companies’ ethical standards. By the end of the day, they tarnish the management and the company in itself. We have seen companies come down due to the bleaching of some ethical values, and thus people can no longer trust them; therefore, it becomes quite difficult for them to rise again. They fail to recognize that the top management has entrusted them with the company’s top secrets. Or the company they have already gained trust with them, and therefore they should not let these secrets out to avoid the company’s breakdown. Some are in the test, and the leaders want to whether they can entrust you with the company’s properties through testing your integrity, but without the knowledge, they fail the test. Our article will explain how these social workers fail this test by going against their integrity and lack the courage to come out as to them; they have been unable like Ling in the seed’s story.
At times social people tend to focus on the results rather than how they went about the process. Like the young people in the seed, their focus was on getting plants to grow, not knowing that the emperor’s focus was not on the end product but the process. At times the social people want to be successful and get money, but how they will get it does not matter to them, even if it is stealing. They will go against their values to be successful. They fail to recognize that once they take care of the process, the result will take care of itself. The empty spot is a lesson to them that once we focus on the means, the end will take care of itself. Like Ling, he did not mind about the result, but he did his part, and thus maintaining his values made him the emperor.
In the seed’s story, we see young emperors whose integrity got tested through the emperor, giving them boiled seeds to grow, and he knew they would not grow. But he wanted to see their integrity. When they realized that the seeds were not growing, all other young people exchanged them and looked for seeds that would unfold. For Ling, he remained with the seed, watered it faithfully for a whole year, and when the time came, he took the emperor an empty pot. He did not think of exchanging and getting a seed that would grow like his fellow young people, but he remained with the one he had been given. Due to his integrity, he was made the emperor. It is the case with most social workers. At times they will be sent out to the field to carry a task on behalf of the company, but most of them do not want to tire, and therefore they end up bleaching the company’s values. Like the young emperors, they go against the company’s expectations, for example, through taking a bribe. What matters most is results, but they forget the company has a name to keep. The top management later finds out, and they end up fired. What if they maintained integrity like Ling? They would have probably gotten a promotion. Ling lays an excellent example of social workers’ emulating to achieve their goals and objectives and remain successful.
Another aspect is the issue of courage. We do things and fail; thus, be tempted to quit as you see yourself as a failure. Ling’s seed did not grow, and therefore, he got was tempted to remain at home and not turn out when the emperor called the young people since he saw himself as a failure. If he failed to gain the courage and show up in the emperor’s place after one year, he would not have been made the emperor. Such is the case with most of the companies. At times, they will put us to the test to see how faithful we are, but we should not fail to gather the courage to say what came about once it fails. The seed’s story is a perfect example that we should always have the courage to speak out as long as we did things the right way and did not breach the company’s values.
The life lessons from the story of the seed are quite clear, and we can see the rewards of everyone’s task. If we reap honesty, we gain trust, and in the end, we become successful like Ling. He chose to go the right way, and this is why his integrity got rewarded. A lesson to the social workers both as individual people and practising their professions that let us always seek to do what is right while upholding the expected values to harvest the good fruits of our labour in the end.
