The technological advancement has been part of human evolution over the millennia. Technology evolved from simple tools like a chariot to sophisticated devices such as computers and smartphones over the centuries, with most complex advancements invented in the last century. The improvement of modern technology changed the world into a global village, thereby impacting vastly on humans’ interaction with others. The invention of internet and mobile gadgets, mainly, has entirely made communication among humans easier with the merger of telecommunication systems globally. The introduction of mobile devices and the internet pioneered a more relaxed way of connecting to other humans globally, irrespective of one’s location. Although celebrated by many for creating unprecedented, more c,comfortable and more convenient means of communication, the advent of modern technology of the world has also disconnected humans. This essay examines how advanced technology has altered human interactions, both positively and negatively.
Modern technology has subtly reformed human interactions in contemporary society. Unlike the previous era where people used less convenient ways to pass information, a letter, for instance, would take a couple of weeks before reaching the intended recipient…….; modern technology has availed various modes of communication ranging from text messages, phone calls, and video chats. The user is at liberty to choose which method is more convenient to pass their message. The invention of WI-FI and internet, further, makes it possible to contact family and friends in a more accessible way. The availability of chat apps, including Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Skype Face Time Calls, and Zoom, enhance a one-on-one digitized global interaction among humans. Moreover, social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram create a digital platform for people from all over the world to meet, connect, and meet. Technology has also made interaction easier. Google translate, for example, provides an opportunity to translate the intended message to various languages therefore making it possible to communicate to someone who speaks a different language. Modern technology has also created an easier platform for meeting new people through the dating app unlike in previous age where people had to leave the house in order to mingle with others. Some online dating apps provide the user an opportunity to choose who to interact with, tinder for instance, only connects two people who have matched while disregarding those who unmatched. Indeed the advancement of telecommunication has made interactions among people easier, and more convenient with vast options to choose from…..
Although modern technology has made the world a global village and created a digital opportunity for humans to interact more conveniently; some scholars argue that it has adversely affected human interaction. The invention of telecommunication devices, for instance, has brought virtual distance among people who are physically close since some mobile users find it hard to disconnect from their mobile devices. Couples, for instance, have become less intimate since they get absorbed with their technological devices, playing video games or chatting with friends or family who are away, at the expense of paying attention to their spouses. Additionally, technology has devaluated human values. It is uncommon’ for instance, for people to bypass each other without uttering a word which is against the human interactive nature. Moreover, technological advancement has led to predominance of antisocial behavior since some people prefer to isolate themselves from friends and enjoy the digital world around their mobile devices. Instead of meeting physically, other people prefer sending text messages or even making phone calls. The possibility to create online groups, like WhatsApp and messenger chat groups has broadened the physical distance among family members and friends. They would prefer digital discussions to physical meetings which they find time-consuming. Although technology has bridged the physical gap among loved ones, enabling them to connect and interact digitally, it has created a virtual gap among people who are physically close. Physical connection and interaction among human beings has therefore declined and virtual distance created as a result of modern technology.
In the contemporary society, communication among humans has been made easier by the modern technology. People are at liberty to choose from many kinds of communication that are available as a result of modern technology. Interacting and connecting to the rest of the world is diverse, easier and more convenient with the use of technology and speaking different languages is no longer a barrier to communication as a result of technological advancement. Even though technology has helped people interact easily and connect globally, telecommunication devices and social media platforms have virtually disconnected people. Some people prefer connecting to digital world to real world therefore declining physical interactions and intimacy among people. Most physical meetings have been replaced with virtual meetings and interactions via digital platforms like WhatsApp groups being prevalent. Modern, technology, therefore, can impact positively or negatively on human interaction depending on how it is used.
