The videos about saving San Francisco Bay

The videos about saving San Francisco Bay are based on knowing the bay better in terms of its formation, uniqueness, discovery, restoration as well as threat facing it just to mention a few. In terms of formation, San Francisco Bay was formed as a result of rising sea levels at the end of the last ice age. The geology can be attributed to the forces along pacific and North American Plates. The bay is described as unique due to its immense size, which covers 16000 square miles while also draining over 40 percent of California’s dry area, making it one of the greatest estuaries in the world. Unlike most estuaries that open to the sea, San Francisco Bay constricts into an entry gate from the Mississippi River, contributing to the estuary’s uniqueness.

The discovery of San Francisco Bay is dated November 4th 1769, by a Spanish explorer named Gaspar de Portola in attempts to establish a base at the port of Monterey. After failing to find the port, Gasper continued exploring northwards to the current Pacifica until he reached the summit of the Sweeney Ridge, which is said to be where he first sighted San Francisco Bay. The restoration aspect of San Francisco Bay is characterized by the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project, which is the second-largest restoration effort in the Unitec States. The tidal marshes along the San Francisco is an essential factor that provides a critical habitat for the migration of birds that use the pacific flyway.

The San Francisco Bay has fallen a victim of invasion several times, with these invasions being attributes to foreign species such as the nonindigenous aquatic species. This includes both plant and animal species. In addition to these invasions, the San Francisco Bay is affected by threats of oil spills, coal as well as trash into the estuary. As for oil spills, the large number of oil tankers and container ships in the area pose a significant threat to the estuary. A second major threat to San Francisco bay is as a result of coal from railroad tracks, which run through local communities and around the bay. This leads to coal pollution in the estuary, thus significantly affecting San Francisco Bay. Finally, whenever it rains, trash flows into the bay through rivers and other water sources, which at act water suppliers to the bay. The good news about the threats posed by oil spills, coal, and trash has closely been looked into, and the responsible authority is doing the best it can to minimize their effects. The gold rush aftermath has also posed a major threat to the San Francisco Bay. The mining and mercury activities in California have been associated with depositing massive sentiment of mining as well as mercury remains into rivers and streams then later into San Francisco Bay.
