Theoretical Framework

Icek Ajzen established the Theory of Planned Behavior in 1985. The theory suggests that intentions on social norms and attitudes can be used to reshape someone’s behavior (Shin, & Kim, 2019). The study will be geared towards examining the effects of children’s time spent on social media and sleeping hours per week on physiological stress (Pardeck, 2018). As far as research variables are concerned, children’s physiological stress depends on the time they spend on social media as well that utilized for sleeping. The theory will be used to analyze a population of college children aged between 10-17 years for both females and males (Shin & Kim, 2019). Based on the theory’s propositions, parents should reshape children’s attitudes and norms towards social media usage, thereby reducing psychological stress.

The Theory of Planned Behavior can apply on social media usage to improve behavior changes in children for both males and females, aged between 10-17 years. This approach suggests that people’s beliefs have a direct correlation with behavior (Pardeck, 2018). Notably, children are adopting the use of social media effectively to attain active and maximum conversations.  The theory of Planned Behavior can aid in resolving issues related to time spent on social media, and hours slept per week and stress among college children. The three problems occur as a result of the victim’s interaction with the environment (Shin & Kim, 2019). As such, time spends on social media can be resolved at a personal level by putting in place rules that will reshape the victim’s attitudes and norms (Shin & Kim, 2019). The sleeping problem associated with social media can be handled by either the parent or the children themselves through reducing excessive use of screens.

A correlational design will be used by the researcher to obtain a vivid relationship among time spend on sleeping, social media usage, and physiological stress on college children aged between 10-17 years (Shin, & Kim, 2019). The research will focus on children aged between 10-17 years, and a sample of 303 participants will be examined with the aid of questionnaires (Shin, & Kim, 2019). The data collected will be analyzed using SPSS, which provides the researcher with standard deviations and levels of significance measures among the variables used.
