Natural disasters are threatening and dangerous for human life. Some areas are prone to some natural disasters that are not subject to human control like hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods, among others. To some point, I do not believe that anyone would choose to live in an area that is prone to natural disasters since some of them are not predictable, and they can cause significant damages. If there were no other choice other than choosing an area that is prone to earthquakes or an area that is prone to tornadoes, I would rather live in a tornado-prone area. This is because:

Tornadoes are easily predictable. The weathermen can foresee when a tornado will come and which route it will use. People can prepare in advance. Moreover, we can know a path that a tornado will use even decades in advance. A tornado warning gives people time to get to safety and secure everything that they have. This reduces the number of deaths that can result from a tornado. Earthquakes are hard to predict. Therefore, there is no time to get to safety, and many people may get injured or die.

Furthermore, tornadoes are more localized, and they affect a specific area, but when an earthquake occurs, the damage is widespread. The earthquakes can affect a whole city in a few minutes and cause a lot of damage. Tornado only follows a specific path and the damage only occurs along that path. People have the chance to secure themselves and their assets away from the tornado’s route.

Also, there are possible ways to survive tornadoes. When I live in a tornado-prone area, I can build my house strong enough to resist a tornado. I can build the house in a state of the art construction methods and materials that can help save the house. Besides, I can build my house underground and have backups for everything incase some utilities are destroyed elsewhere by the tornadoes. Additionally, I will ensure I  have a constant supply of water and food in case there is a tornado that cannot quit. Earthquakes are more challenging to live with because they can tear holes into the ground, and it would be impossible to escape it. There are no ways to escape a strong earthquake, no matter how strong your house is.

In conclusion, many people would not fear as much to see a storm heading their way as much as they would fear to feel the ground shaking beneath the feet. Despite tornadoes being among the deadliest natural disasters, I would choose to live with them rather than living with earthquakes because people can survive, the damage is localized, and they can be predicted.
