Thesis
Tracheostomy is a famous performed surgical protocol for those patients with critical acute respiratory failure.
Background of topic
It has been discovered that fewer methods are existing in treating critical respiratory conditions. These traditional methods have to be replaced with an effective method known as a percutaneous tracheostomy. From the researchers, it has been noted that tracheostomy techniques have, in a significant way, replaced the traditional methods of operating those critically ill respiratory victims. Besides, it has been discovered that there are numerous methods of tracheostomy which have emerged in an attempt of solving the challenge. However, among those methods, the best technique over the other has not been identified. The study there involves finding evidence of supporting the percutaneous tracheostomy over the traditional operative method.
The Problem / Opposition to the thesis
Tracheostomy is becoming among the known method of operating patients with respiratory failure. However, the technique still has some limitations. As the traditional methods of operating patients with respiratory problems, the tracheostomy method is still unable to reduce the mortality rate of older adults. It was noted that the high frequency of progression to tracheostomy does not have any correlation with the APACHE II score. Therefore, even if it is a mostly used method, it does not meet full expectations of recovery, especially for older people.
The solution/ main support for the thesis
It has been noted that the traditional method of surgical practices has been ineffective and resulted in more death. However, with emerging of tracheostomy, it has been discovered that the rate of mortality due to respiratory infections has gone low. It is an aspect which shows that if there is an improvement of this surgical method, it could lead to even mortality rate of older adults.
