You are invited to share relevant audio, video, or images to your introduction.
The TED Talk that I chose to watch this week was “Trial, Error and the God complex” by Tim Harford. Harford is an economist who studies complex systems and finds a surprising link among the most successful ones; they are built through trial and error. His talk centers around the idea of a God complex – a refusal to admit the possibility of being wrong regardless of the complexity of the situation – and how trial and error creates better results than a self-proclaimed expert. Howard gives an example of Unilever, a company that employed variation, selection, trial, and error in developing its best products. According to Howard, the Unilever example demonstrates that innovation is often born through mistakes. The video encourages people and companies to learn to adapt quickly, experiment often, and continually try new things.
The next resource that I reviewed was the Purdue Online Writing Lab. I found it resourceful in learning and the writing process, and it has significantly helped improve my writing. With its wide range of resources about the writing process, grammar, and style, I was surprised that it offers free access. It describes all the written information that I need to prepare my final paper.
I also explored the OWL Purdue YouTube channel. I found this to be very helpful with my writing with some of the writing videos that I have explored. I hope this will help me grow as a college-level writer in the long run.
I have the Grammarly app integrated with my email account, and I find it helpful in improving my writing styles as well as making my writing more appealing and effective. Besides correcting basic errors, Grammarly has helped me grow into a confident writer where I can focus on creating engaging and compelling write-ups.
Generally, I feel more confident in my role as a self-editor and college-level writer. However, I am always looking for opportunities to grow and learn and build myself as a writer and communicator. Also, I am confident in my ability to troubleshoot and improve, but I believe there is always room for improvement.
