TVs Powers of Socialization

TVs acts as a reflection of what is happening in society, thus influencing others to adopt a similar lifestyle. It also illuminates the happenings in the modern world and spreads the information to others. Since TVs are currently available in most homes, many families are now watching them, which is influencing their socialization. Therefore, the availability of TVs increases their powers to influence socialization. The “Modern Family” television show premiered on ABC in 2009 and has aired until April 2020. I have watched season 11 of the television show where both women and men are given an equal platform. The modern family portrays current family changes in the world. Jay Pritchett has two children, Claire and Mitchell, and remarried to Gloria, who has a son from her previous marriage. Claire is married to Phil, and they have three children while Mitchell is married to Cam and they have two adopted children, Lily and Rexford.

In season 11, Mitch and Cam are delighted for adopting a new baby, Rexford, which indicates that they are happy to be in gay marriage. This reflects modern gay marriages where men are marrying gents while women are marrying ladies. This is changing our socialization aspects since people are now finding it normal to have gay relationships. The portrayal of a happy gay marriage is influencing people to understand that gay marriages also work. Additionally, the show portrays women as caring and loving figures in the families. Claire is portrayed as a mother who looks after her children and husband. Gloria is also committed to taking care of the whole family, including her stepson and daughter. This influences people to respect women because of the roles they play in their families.

The modern family show also denotes how technology has changed the socialization process. The whole TV series portrays a large family that has been immersed in technology (Bruce, 2011). The cast is engaging in a digital activity of using an iPad, cellphone, YouTube videos and baby monitor. This portrays the nature of socialization in the contemporary world where people communicate via digital platforms. Digital platforms such as social media have taken center stage of socialization. This has created a disconnection between friends as they rely on digital platforms to communicate.
