Understanding the behavior of people around you
Prompt
The course material has come across as critically vital and practical with extensive real-world applications. The material has various applications across academic, professional, and academic life. For instance, the concept of analyzing behavior comes across as a potentially practical and viable concept in real life. Often, we are required to interact with individuals on various levels. Understanding the behavior of people around you, from workmates to family, is critical to building relationships and other critical elements such as decision making – this is a valuable and topic across many aspects of my life. It is critical in understanding the motivation behind other people’s actions, and therefore better the inter-personal experience.
Optional
I have questioned another person’s way of thinking in the past. Understanding and evaluating if another person’s behavior is normal, requires critical analytical skills. One must be able to identify indicative cues for abnormal behavior. One has to first set fundamental parameters for what is normal behavior. The understanding of these parameters then sets a critical benchmarking aspect for normal behavior. For instance, in the past, I have experienced a situation where an individual who had engaged in professional malpractice had discernible altered behavioral patterns. These were critical in getting to the bottom of the matter when the issue was discovered as the individual’s abnormal behavior made them stand out from other implicated individuals.
Student Response
The approach taken is practical. The material and concepts addressed are indeed helpful in the case of inter-personal interaction and developing relationships. The insight into the individual responses to different elements and situations is a great guide for personal perspectives and approaches to action. Gauging abnormal behavior needs to depend on various elements, such as perceptions of normal behavior. These can then be critically useful in understanding and evaluating potentially abnormal behavior. It is especially critical in various situations, such as in professional contexts, as in the fire department case. For instance, the evaluation of calls for AMS (Altered Mental Status), as explained, is one way it presents practicality in real life.
